Pray That God Will Open Your Eyes
Opening Your Eyes Through Prayer
Today, we will pray for God to open your eyes so you may see. Consider the story of Bartimaeus, a blind man who heard that Jesus Christ was passing by. Trusting God for his sight, he cried out for mercy, shouting persistently until Jesus stopped. Despite attempts to silence him, Bartimaeus remained undeterred. His sole desire was to regain his sight, and he made this clear when Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus replied, “That I may receive my sight.” Immediately, Jesus healed him, and he regained his vision.
Lessons from Bartimaeus
- Be Transparent with God: When you pray, be open and honest about your needs. You can hide things from people, but nothing is hidden from God. When He asks a question, it’s to understand your mindset and priorities. He knows your needs but wants to see what you prioritize.
- Prioritize Your Requests: Bartimaeus could have asked for alms, similar to the lame man at the Beautiful Gate who sought money from Peter and John instead of healing. However, Bartimaeus prioritized his sight, demonstrating the importance of prioritizing significant needs in prayer.
Physical and Spiritual Blindness
Pray that God will open your eyes to see clearly, both physically and spiritually. Spiritual blindness can be more severe than physical blindness, manifesting in two ways:
- Blinded to the Gospel: Some people’s hearts are blinded by Satan, preventing them from seeing the light of the gospel. They hear the Word of God but it doesn’t resonate with them, leading to a lack of faith and understanding. Pray for these individuals to have their eyes of understanding opened.
- Blind to the Spiritual Realm: Spiritual blindness can also mean an inability to perceive spiritual realities. For instance, when an army came to arrest Elisha, his servant Gehazi was frightened until Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened. Gehazi then saw the chariots of fire protecting them.
Examples of Spiritual Sight
- Gehazi and Elisha: Gehazi’s physical eyes were open, but he couldn’t see the spiritual protection around them until Elisha prayed for his sight.
- Balaam and His Donkey: On his way to curse Israel, Balaam was stopped by an angel only his donkey could see. God had to open Balaam’s eyes to prevent his destruction.
Conclusion
As we pray today, be open and unashamed before God. Ask Him to open your eyes and deliver you from all forms of blindness, both physical and spiritual. Pray that you will see clearly and understand the spiritual realities around you. In Jesus’ name, may your eyes be opened, and may you gain sight and insight to navigate life’s challenges effectively.

48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
