Renewed Faith In Times of Doubt
Renewed Faith In Times of Doubt
Today, we will be praying for a renewed faith in times of doubt. Faith comes by hearing, that is, by hearing the Word of God. Doubt comes also by hearing but this time around it is by hearing the word of the devil. The same way Jesus speaks to your heart, the devil also speaks to your heart. Whether you have faith or doubt depends on whom you are listening to. You must focus on the Word of God and meditate on it in order to build your faith.
Examples of those who had faith in times of doubt in the bible
-
Abraham
Though initially doubtful about having a son in his old age, he ultimately trusted God’s promise. Abraham’s faith was renewed in the times of doubt and he became the father of faith. (Genesis 17:17-18; Romans 4:19-21).
-
Sarah
She initially laughed at the promise of bearing a child in her old age, but later believed and bore Isaac. Her renewed faith in God in times of doubt later gave her the strength to conceive and give birth to Isaac (Genesis 18:12-14; Hebrews 11:11).
-
Gideon
He expressed doubt about his ability to save Israel but trusted God after receiving multiple signs (Judges 6:36-40).
-
Moses
He initially doubted his ability to lead the Israelites out of Egypt but obeyed God’s call (Exodus 3:11-14; 4:1-17).
-
Elijah
He faced despair and doubt after Jezebel threatened his life, but God reassured him. His faith was renewed in the times of doubt and he was able to continue in the journey (1 Kings 19:1-18).
-
Thomas
He doubted Jesus’ resurrection until he saw and touched Jesus’ wounds, then believed. (John 20:24-29).
-
John the Baptist
He experienced doubt while in prison and sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the Messiah, but his faith was affirmed by Jesus’ response (Matthew 11:2-6).
-
David
He faced numerous trials and expressed doubt in the Psalms, yet consistently reaffirmed his trust in God. David’s faith was renewed in times of doubt (Psalm 22:1-2, 19-24).
-
Job
He experienced severe trials and questioned God’s justice, but ultimately maintained his faith (Job 19:25-27; Job 42:1-6).
-
Jeremiah
He often doubted his ability to fulfill his prophetic mission but continued to trust in God’s purpose (Jeremiah 1:6-8; 20:7-9).
-
Habakkuk
He questioned God’s justice in the face of rampant evil but concluded with a strong declaration of faith (Habakkuk 1:2-4; 3:17-19).
-
Naomi
She experienced bitterness and doubt after losing her husband and sons but later saw God’s faithfulness through Ruth (Ruth 1:20-21; 4:14-17).
-
Esther
She faced doubt about her ability to save her people but stepped out in faith to approach the king (Esther 4:11-16).
-
Zacharias
He initially doubted the angel’s announcement of John the Baptist’s birth due to his and his wife’s old age but later believed and praised God (Luke 1:18-20, 64).
These examples illustrate how faith can prevail even in times of doubt, demonstrating reliance on God’s promises and faithfulness.
Prayer Points
- Father, I pray for a renewed faith in times of doubt. Lord, I pray that anytime I call unto you, you will answer me. Father, I pray that you will meet me at the point of my needs in Jesus’ name.
Psalm 22:1-2 (NIV)
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest.
2. Father, I pray for a renewed faith in times of doubt. Lord, you helped Naomi to renew her faith and you turned her sorrow to joy. So, I pray that you will also turn my sorrow to joy and turn my mourning into dancing in Jesus’ name
Ruth 1:20-21 (NIV)
Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. 21 I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.”
3. Father, I pray for a renewed faith in times of doubt. I pray that you will increase my faith and I will not doubt your Word just like Zechariah did in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will answer all my prayers speedily in Jesus’ name
Luke 1:18-20 (NIV)
Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” 19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.
4. Father, I pray for a renewed faith in times of doubt. Lord, I pray that whenever I call for help you will listen to me. Father, I pray that you will remember me and answer all my prayers in Jesus’ name
Habakkuk 1:2-4 (NIV)
How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? 3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. 4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
6. Father, I prayed for a renewed faith. In times of doubt. Lord, I pray that just like you renewed the faith of Jeremiah and he was able to do your assignment, you will renew my faith also. Father, I pray that you will empower me for the assignment you have given to me in Jesus’ name.
Jeremiah 1:6-8 (NIV)
“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” 7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Persevering in Faith Through Life’s Storms
8. Father, I pray for a renewed faith in times of doubt. Lord, I pray that just like you renewed the faith of Sarah and she was able to conceive and she gave birth to Isaac, you will renew my faith. Father, I pray that all your promises for my life will come to pass in Jesus’ name.

So Gideon said to God, “If You will save Israel by my hand as You have said— 37 look, I shall put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said.” 38 And it was so. When he rose early the next morning and squeezed the fleece together, he wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water. 39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me, but let me speak just once more: Let me test, I pray, just once more with the fleece; let it now be dry only on the fleece, but on all the ground let there be dew.” 40 And God did so that night. It was dry on the fleece only, but there was dew on all the ground.

13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”
