Consecration as God’s Battle Axe
Consecration as God’s Battle Axe
Today, we are going to consider consecration as God’s battle axe. Jeremiah 51:20 (NKJV) says, “You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms.”
Introduction
Throughout Scripture, God has always accomplished His purposes on earth through consecrated vessels—men and women set apart for His divine use. In Jeremiah 51:20, God declares His people as His “battle-ax and weapons of war.” This powerful image portrays believers not as passive spectators but as active instruments in God’s hand—tools of transformation, deliverance, and judgment against the powers of darkness.
However, for a weapon to be effective in the hand of the Master, it must be sharp, clean, and set apart. That is where consecration comes in. Consecration is the process by which God purifies, prepares, and positions His people to fulfill His redemptive purposes on the earth.
Understanding Consecration
Consecration means to be set apart, dedicated, or made holy for God’s purpose. It involves a separation from sin and worldly distractions and a total surrender to God’s will.
Romans 12:1 (NKJV) says:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
Consecration is not a one-time event—it is a continuous lifestyle of surrender. Just as the priests in the Old Testament had to cleanse themselves before serving at the altar (Exodus 19:10, Leviticus 8:10–12), every believer who desires to be used as God’s battle axe must undergo the process of purification and spiritual readiness.
The Battle Axe: God’s Instrument of Warfare
The term “battle axe” symbolizes divine strength and authority. In ancient warfare, the axe was a powerful weapon used to crush, break, and destroy. When God calls His people His “battle axe,” He is emphasizing that He works through them to dismantle evil systems, overthrow spiritual darkness, and establish His kingdom on earth.
In 2 Corinthians 10:4–5 (NKJV), Paul reminds us:
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”
God’s battle axe is not a physical tool—it is a spiritual instrument. The consecrated believer becomes the means through which God enforces His will and advances His Kingdom agenda.
The Power of a Consecrated Life
When a believer is consecrated, they become a vessel through which God’s power flows unhindered. 2 Timothy 2:21 (NKJV) says:
“Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”
A consecrated life produces:
- Spiritual Authority: Sin weakens authority; holiness strengthens it.
- Clarity of Purpose: Consecration aligns your will with God’s will.
- Purity of Power: God releases His anointing only upon clean vessels.
- Effectiveness in Warfare: A consecrated believer can resist the devil and enforce divine decrees (James 4:7).
The sharper the axe, the greater the impact. In the same way, the purer the vessel, the more powerfully God can use it.
Consecration and Establishing God’s Kingdom
Consecration is not for personal glory—it is for Kingdom advancement.
Jesus prayed, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10 NKJV).
>God’s Kingdom advances when His consecrated people stand in obedience and partnership with the Holy Spirit to manifest His will on earth.
Like Daniel, Esther, or Deborah, consecrated men and women become divine agents of transformation in their generation—overthrowing injustice, confronting idolatry, and proclaiming the righteousness of God in every sphere of influence.
The Cost of Consecration
True consecration always comes at a price. It means saying “no” to self, sin, and worldly pleasure. It means surrendering personal ambition to pursue God’s agenda.
Jesus declared in Luke 9:23 (NKJV):
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
Consecration is costly, but it is never wasted. Those who yield themselves become channels through which the fire of revival spreads, just like Isaiah who said, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8).
The Call to Consecration
In this generation, God is raising an army—His battle axes—who will not bow to compromise or fear. They will be carriers of His presence, executing His judgment against the works of darkness and releasing His glory in every territory.
Joel 2:11 (NKJV) describes this army:
“The Lord gives voice before His army, for His camp is very great; for strong is the One who executes His word. For the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; who can endure it?”
To be part of this army, you must answer the call to consecration. It is not about perfection but submission. It is not about ability but availability.
Conclusion
Consecration transforms ordinary believers into extraordinary instruments in God’s hands. When we yield ourselves completely, God sharpens us for His divine purpose, and through us, He breaks strongholds, destroys kingdoms of darkness, and establishes His reign upon the earth.
Let this be your prayer:
“Lord, make me Your battle axe—purify me, fill me, and use me to establish Your Kingdom on earth.”
