Praying That God Will Glorify Himself Through His Church
God Will Glorify Himself Through His Church
Today, we will pray that God will glorify Himself through Christ. God uses the Church—not just as a gathering of believers—but as His chosen vessel to manifest His glory to the world. From the foundation of time, God’s purpose has always been to glorify Himself in and through His people. When we understand this divine plan, we begin to see the church not only as a place of worship and fellowship but as a beacon of God’s glory to all nations.
The Church: God’s Dwelling Place
The Apostle Paul makes a profound statement in Ephesians 2:21–22 (NKJV):
“In whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”
God builds His Church as His spiritual temple, where He causes His presence to dwell. Just as He filled the Old Testament tabernacle and temple with His glory (Exodus 40:34, 2 Chronicles 5:14), He now fills His Church with His Spirit. This indwelling presence is a manifestation of His glory to the world.
Revealing God’s Wisdom and Power
Paul also states in Ephesians 3:10 (NIV):
“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.”
The Church is not just a witness on earth but a display of God’s wisdom and power even to the heavenly realms. Believers display God’s glory in extraordinary ways when they walk in unity, love, and righteousness. The spiritual forces—both angels and demons—witness the unfolding of God’s redemptive plan through the Church.
Christ in Us: The Hope of Glory
God glorifies Himself in the Church by placing Christ within every believer. Paul writes in Colossians 1:27 (NKJV):
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
This divine indwelling is the mystery of the gospel: God living in us to radiate His glory through us. As we grow in the likeness of Christ, we reveal God’s nature—His love, holiness, wisdom, and power—to the world through the Church.
A People Called for His Glory
In Isaiah 43:7 (NIV), God declares:
“Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
God calls people by His name, creates and saves them to form the Church, so they can glorify Him. Every act of obedience, every moment of worship, every step of faith brings glory to God. This is why Peter writes in 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV):
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”
God’s Glory Will Fill the Earth—Through His Church
In Habakkuk 2:14 (NKJV) we read:
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
The Church fulfills this prophetic word as it spreads the gospel. Every local assembly, missionary effort, and Spirit-filled believer is an agent of God’s glory, pushing back darkness and declaring the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Living for His Glory
For the Church to fulfill its role in glorifying God, believers must live lives fully surrendered to Him. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 (NIV):
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
The Church glorifies God when:
- We walk in holiness and obedience
- We love one another genuinely
- We proclaim the gospel boldly
- We worship with sincerity and truth
- We serve with humility and compassion
Conclusion: The Glory Is His
The Church is not perfect, but it is being perfected. It is not the source of glory, but the vessel through which glory flows. God has chosen to reveal Himself through His people—living stones, united in Christ—to manifest His greatness to the world.
Let us therefore live in a way that reflects the beauty, majesty, and holiness of our God. As the body of Christ, we exist not for our fame, but to make His name known.
“To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” – Ephesians 3:21 (KJV)
