Pray For The Grace Not To Forsake Parental Divine Instructions

Pray For The Grace Not To Forsake Parental Divine Instructions

Today, we will pray for the grace not to forsake parental divine instructions. The parents have an oversight function over the children. God makes them custodians for the children and they have the duty to lead and guide the children. When we refuse godly counsel from our parents it is a sign of dishonour for them. However, God said that we should obey our father and mother. This obedience is a sign of honour to them.

Isaac was a perfect example of someone who obeyed divine instructions from his father, Abraham. When God told Abraham to go and sacrifice his only son Isaac, Isaac had the capacity to refuse to be the sacrificial lamb. However, He obeyed the divine instructions from his father even unto the point of death.

The sons of the house of Rechabites are another perfect example of those who embraced divine instructions from their father. Their father told them not to drink wine nor strong drink and they obeyed. Even when Jeremiah the prophet told them to drink alcoholic drinks, they bluntly refused because that was against the instructions of their father. Proverbs 4:1 says, “Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding.” Your parents’ instructions have the capacity to give you understanding.

The Rechabites Obeyed Parental Divine Instructions

The scripture also admonishes us to obey our parents in the Lord for this is right. God gave the parents as custodians to raise us and guide us in the ways of the Lord and to help us to fulfill God’s plans for our lives. One of the reasons why God loves Abraham and made him his confidante was because God realized that he would command his children to keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice (Genesis 18:19). This shows how important it is for parents to give their children divine instructions. It is also instructive for the children to obey these divine instructions from their parents.

As we pray today, I pray that God will give you the grace not to forsake divine instructions from your parents in Jesus’ name.
