Pray For a Spiritual Awakening
Spiritual Awakening: When the Wind of the Holy Spirit Blows
Today, we will be praying for a spiritual awakening. The book of Ephesians 5:14 (NLT) says,
“Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
There are moments in history when God interrupts the ordinary—when hearts are stirred, eyes are opened, and people everywhere begin to hunger for something more. This is spiritual awakening, and it is always preceded by one unmistakable sign: the wind of the Holy Spirit.
Just as the natural wind moves invisibly but undeniably—bending trees, stirring dust, and changing the atmosphere—so does the Holy Spirit move in power to awaken the hearts of men and women.
What Is Spiritual Awakening?
Spiritual awakening is not merely an emotional moment or a revival service; it is a divine stirring that shifts people from spiritual slumber to deep spiritual hunger. It is when:
- Cold hearts become tender again.
- Dry altars burn with fresh fire.
- Complacent believers cry out for more of God.
- The Church steps into her identity with boldness and authority.
In every age, God sends the wind of His Spirit to awaken what has grown numb, to revive what has fallen asleep, and to breathe life into what seems dead.
The Wind of the Spirit Awakens Dry Bones
In Ezekiel 37, the prophet is led to a valley full of dry bones. God commands him to prophesy, and as he does, the wind—the breath of God—enters the bones, and they rise as a mighty army.
This is the picture of spiritual awakening:
A lifeless generation revived by the breath of the Holy Spirit.
“Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.”
— Ezekiel 37:9 (NIV)
What Causes Us to Fall Asleep Spiritually?
Before there can be awakening, we must recognize the slumber:
- Routine without intimacy
- Prayer without expectation
- Faith without fire
- Worship without wonder
It happens subtly—busyness, disappointment, or comfort lull us into a spiritual coma, where we go through motions without experiencing God’s presence.
But the Spirit doesn’t leave us in that state. Like a mighty wind, He comes to shake, stir, and awaken.
Signs of a Spiritual Awakening
When the wind of the Spirit begins to move, these signs often follow:
- Repentance becomes real and heartfelt.
- Worship deepens in sincerity and passion.
- The Word of God becomes alive and relevant.
- Prayer intensifies, both personally and corporately.
- Unity among believers increases.
- Boldness in evangelism and witness emerges.
- Miracles and spiritual gifts begin to flow.
These are not manufactured—they are the fruit of a fresh encounter with the living God.
How to Position Yourself for Awakening
You cannot force the wind to blow, but you can raise your sail. Here’s how:
- Pray: Ask God to awaken your heart. Start with honesty and humility.
- Repent: Let go of what’s dulling your spirit.
- Worship: Engage God not just with songs, but with surrender.
- Wait: Learn to be still and listen for the whisper of the wind.
- Act: Move in obedience when the Spirit stirs you.
A Call to the Church Today
Our world is desperate for life, truth, and hope. Programs and productions won’t change hearts. We need a genuine move of the Holy Spirit—a fresh wind that wakes the Church and reaches the lost.
This is not a time for passive Christianity. It’s a time to rise, to burn, and to breathe in the breath of heaven. The Wind of the Holy Spirit is blowing—will you awaken?
“The wind blows wherever it pleases… So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
— John 3:8 (NIV)
Prayer for Spiritual Awakening
Holy Spirit, come. Blow upon the dry places in my soul. Awaken what has fallen asleep. Stir a hunger that only You can satisfy. Let Your wind blow across my heart, my church, and my generation. Revive us, O Lord. Let us live again. Amen.
Prayer Points On Spiritual Awakening
1. Lord, awaken every area of my life that has been spiritually asleep. Let the light of Christ shine on me and stir me out of complacency.
Ephesians 5:14 (NIV)
“This is why it is said: ‘Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.’”
2. Holy Spirit, breathe into every dry and lifeless area. Let the wind of God raise a mighty army out of what was once broken and scattered.
Ezekiel 37:9–10 (NIV)
“Then he said to me, ‘Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.”’ So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”
3. Father, revive us again by Your Spirit. Restore the joy of salvation and ignite a fresh passion for Your presence.
Psalm 85:6 (NIV)
“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?”
4. Lord, pour out Your Spirit upon us. Let there be a fresh release of visions, dreams, and prophetic utterance among all generations.
Joel 2:28–29 (NIV)
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
5. Father, let there be another Pentecost. Fill us with Your Spirit until we overflow with heavenly language, boldness, and supernatural power.
Acts 2:1–4 (NIV)
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Holy Ghost Awakening
6. Lord, awaken me to the urgency of the hour. Clothe me with the armor of light and deliver me from spiritual laziness and distraction
Romans 13:11–12 (NIV)
“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
7. Breathe new life into us, O Lord, and cause our hearts to call upon Your name with passion and reverence
Psalm 80:18 (NIV)
“Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name.”
8. Let Your voice, O Jesus, awaken the spiritually dead. Cause many to hear and respond to Your call of life and transformation.
John 5:25 (NIV)
“Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.”
9. Lord, remove every obstacle in the way of revival. Prepare our hearts and clear the path for the move of Your Spirit.
Isaiah 57:14 (NIV)
“And it will be said: ‘Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.’”
10. Father, make us spiritually alert. Strengthen our prayer lives and keep us sober-minded as we await Your return.
1 Peter 4:7 (NIV)
“The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.”
Quickening of the Heart
11. We repent and turn to You, Lord. Let times of refreshing come from the presence of the Holy Spirit upon our lives and churches.
Acts 3:19 (NIV)
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
12. Holy Spirit, transform my mind and renew my heart. Break conformity to the world and align me fully with Your perfect will
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve God’s will—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
13. Lord, as we humble ourselves and seek Your face, heal our land through the wind of Your Spirit. Let revival begin with us.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
14. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a steadfast spirit within me and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore my joy.
Psalm 51:10–12 (NIV)
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
15. Jesus, wake us up! Strengthen what remains in our lives. Help us remember and respond to what You have spoken.
Revelation 3:2–3 (NIV)
“Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”
