Introduction: Understanding Prayer for Answered Prayers
Today, we will be considering the topic, “Prayer for answered prayers.” One of the greatest desires in the life of a believer is to pray and receive an answer from God. There is hardly anything more discouraging than praying about a matter repeatedly and seemingly receiving no answer.
Sometimes, we pray and the answer appears to be delayed. At other times, God answers immediately. However, it is important to understand that God always answers prayer, although His answer may not always be what we expect.
God’s answer to our prayers can generally be understood in three ways:
- Yes – God grants the request.
- No – God denies the request because it is not His will or because He knows it is not ultimately beneficial for us.
- Wait – God intends to answer, but the timing has not yet arrived.
Therefore, when we pray for answered prayers, we must not only ask God to answer us; we must also ask for the grace to trust His will, understand His timing, and remain faithful while we wait.
When Can God Say “No” to Our Prayers?
Not every prayer receives a “yes.” Sometimes, God’s answer is no, and even a “no” is an answer to prayer.
1. When Our Prayer Is Not According to God’s Will
The Bible teaches us in 1 John 5:14 that we have confidence in God when we ask according to His will.
When what we are asking for is contrary to God’s will, He may say no.
Jesus demonstrated this in the Garden of Gethsemane. He prayed concerning the suffering He was about to experience and asked if the cup could pass from Him. Nevertheless, He submitted Himself to the Father’s will.
The purpose of Jesus’ suffering, persecution, crucifixion, and death was ultimately connected to God’s plan for the salvation of humanity.
Jesus submitted by saying, in essence, not My will, but Yours be done.
God’s “no” was therefore part of a greater “yes” to His redemptive plan.
Sometimes, when God says no to our prayer, He is protecting His purpose for our lives.
2. When What We Are Asking For Could Harm Us
Imagine giving a car key to a very young child who has not yet learned how to drive. If the child asks for the car key, a responsible parent will say no.
The parent is not rejecting the child. The parent is protecting the child.
If the child is allowed to drive before he or she is mature enough, it could result in an accident or serious injury.
In the same way, there are things we may ask God for that could harm us if we received them at the wrong time.
Sometimes God says no because He sees what we cannot see.
We see the present, but God sees the beginning, the middle, and the end.
Therefore, when we pray for answered prayers, we must trust God’s wisdom even when His answer is different from what we expected.
3. When What We Are Asking For Is Not God’s Perfect Will
Abraham experienced a situation where human reasoning appeared to provide an alternative to God’s promise.
When Abraham had no child, he considered Eliezer as someone who could become his heir. Later, Sarah suggested that Abraham have a child through Hagar, resulting in Ishmael.
However, God had already established His covenant concerning the son who would come through Sarah.
God’s promise was ultimately fulfilled through Isaac.
This teaches us that not every solution we create is God’s perfect solution.
Sometimes, we become impatient with God’s timing and attempt to manufacture our own answer.
When we pray for answered prayers, we must be careful not to force our own solution when God has already prepared something better.
4. When We Ask for Something Contrary to God’s Purpose
Balaam provides another example.
Balak wanted Balaam to curse Israel, but God would not allow him to curse the people whom God had blessed.
This reminds us that there are prayers and requests that God will refuse because they contradict His purpose.
We cannot expect God to answer prayers that oppose His Word, character, or purpose.
God’s answer may be no because He is committed to His divine plan.
5. When the Shortest Route Is Not the Best Route
The children of Israel provide another powerful example.
God did not always take Israel through the shortest route toward the Promised Land. There were reasons for the route He chose.
If they had encountered certain battles too early, they could have become discouraged and returned to Egypt.
God was not simply concerned about getting Israel to Canaan. He was also concerned about developing them along the journey.
Sometimes, we pray for a shortcut, but God knows that the longer route is necessary for our preparation.
You may be asking:
“God, why is this taking so long?”
But God may be saying:
“I am preparing you for where I am taking you.”
Your destination is important, but your preparation is also important.
When Can God Say “Wait”?
Sometimes God’s answer is not “no.” His answer is “wait.”
Waiting can be one of the most difficult aspects of prayer because we often want immediate results.
However, throughout Scripture, we see people who had to wait before they received what God had promised.
1. Abraham Had to Wait
Abraham waited many years before Isaac was born.
God could have given Abraham a child immediately, but the waiting period became part of Abraham’s journey of faith.
Abraham had to leave his father’s country, trust God, wait for the promised child, and eventually demonstrate his willingness to offer Isaac back to God.
His journey helped shape him into the man of faith Scripture presents to us.
Sometimes, the waiting period is part of the preparation for the promise.
It is like education.
A student does not receive a bachelor’s degree after completing one examination. There are different levels of examinations and learning before a person progresses from a bachelor’s degree to a master’s degree and eventually a doctoral degree.
In the same way, God may take us through different seasons of testing, learning, development, and preparation before entrusting certain things to us.
2. Zechariah and Elizabeth Had to Wait
Zechariah and Elizabeth had prayed for a child for many years.
Eventually, God blessed them with John the Baptist.
John’s birth was connected to God’s larger plan because he was appointed to prepare the way for Jesus Christ.
This reminds us that God’s timing is connected to His purpose.
What appears to us to be a delay may actually be connected to something much bigger than our immediate request.
God may be arranging circumstances, people, opportunities, and events that we cannot see.
Therefore, when praying for answered prayers, we must learn to trust God’s timing.
3. Joseph Had to Wait for His Dream
Joseph received dreams when he was young, but the fulfillment of those dreams did not happen immediately.
He went through rejection, slavery, false accusations, imprisonment, and years of preparation before eventually becoming second-in-command in Egypt.
Joseph’s dream was revealed before his character and experience were fully developed.
The dream came first, but the preparation came afterward.
Sometimes, God gives you a vision before He gives you the position because you need to grow into the person who can carry the promise.
4. David Had to Wait for the Throne
David was anointed to become king of Israel while he was still young.
However, he did not immediately sit on the throne.
He had to wait while Saul remained king.
David had opportunities to take matters into his own hands, but he refused to destroy God’s appointed order.
His waiting season tested his patience, character, faith, and ability to trust God.
Sometimes, you may pray for something that God has already promised, but you still have to wait for the appointed time.
A promise from God does not always mean an immediate fulfillment.
5. Jesus Waited Before Beginning His Public Ministry
Jesus Christ came into the world with a divine assignment, but He did not begin His public ministry immediately.
He lived and grew before beginning His public ministry around the age of thirty.
This teaches us an important principle:
Growth is often necessary before certain assignments can be entrusted to us.
God may have answered your prayer in principle, but you may still need to grow into the capacity required to handle the answer.
Your Spiritual Growth Can Affect What God Entrusts to You
There are things that God may not entrust to someone who has not yet developed the maturity to handle them.
A child cannot be given the same responsibility as a mature adult.
The same principle applies spiritually.
The Bible speaks about spiritual growth and different levels of spiritual understanding.
There is the milk of the Word, and there is also strong meat.
As believers grow spiritually, God can entrust greater responsibilities and assignments to them.
Therefore, when you pray for answered prayers, don’t only pray:
“Lord, give me what I am asking for.”
Also pray:
“Lord, make me ready for what I am asking for.”
Your character must be able to sustain your blessing.
Your spiritual maturity must be able to carry your assignment.
Your wisdom must be able to manage your increase.
There Is a Time and Season for Everything
Ecclesiastes teaches us that there is a time and season for everything under heaven.
Habakkuk also teaches us that the vision has an appointed time. Though it may seem to delay, we are instructed to wait for it because it will surely come.
This is an important principle when praying for answered prayers.
Delay does not necessarily mean denial.
Sometimes, God is simply saying:
“Wait.”
The answer is coming, but the appointed time has not yet arrived.
Do not allow a delayed answer to make you conclude that God has forgotten you.
God’s silence does not mean God’s absence.
God’s delay does not mean God’s denial.
Sometimes, God is working behind the scenes.
When Can God Say “Yes”?
God can also answer prayer with an immediate yes.
The Bible contains many examples of people who experienced God’s intervention after they prayed.
Jesus performed many miracles and answered the cries of people who came to Him in faith.
Jabez prayed, and God answered his request.
Isaac prayed concerning his family, and God answered him.
David repeatedly sought God for direction and received answers concerning battles and difficult situations.
Judah faced an overwhelming military threat and sought God, and God intervened on their behalf.
Jacob wrestled with God and experienced a significant encounter that changed his life.
These examples remind us that God still answers prayer.
Therefore, do not stop praying.
Do not stop believing.
Do not stop trusting.
Do not stop seeking God.
Your answer may be closer than you think.
Obedience Can Position You for God’s Blessings
There are times when God gives us blessings beyond what we specifically ask for.
Solomon offered sacrifices to God, and when God appeared to him, Solomon asked for wisdom to lead God’s people.
God was pleased with his request and gave him wisdom, along with things he did not ask for.
This demonstrates an important principle:
When our hearts are aligned with God, He can do exceedingly beyond what we ask or imagine.
Esther also fasted, prayed, and approached the king concerning the salvation of her people.
Her request was eventually granted.
Prayer must therefore be accompanied by obedience, faith, wisdom, and action.
The Blessings of Obedience
Deuteronomy 28:1–14 contains numerous blessings associated with obedience to God.
Isaiah 1:19 also teaches the principle that if we are willing and obedient, we will eat the good of the land.
God is interested not only in answering our prayers but also in developing our relationship with Him.
Sometimes, we are asking God to change our circumstances when God is first asking us to change our hearts.
Sometimes, we are asking for a blessing while God is asking for obedience.
Sometimes, we are asking for an open door while God is asking us to develop the character required to walk through that door.
How Should We Pray for Answered Prayers?
When praying for answered prayers, remember these important principles:
1. Pray According to God’s Will
Ask God to align your desires with His purpose.
2. Pray With Faith
Do not allow doubt and fear to dominate your prayer life.
3. Be Persistent
Continue praying even when the answer appears delayed.
4. Trust God’s Timing
A delayed answer is not necessarily a denied answer.
5. Be Willing to Accept “No”
God sees what you cannot see. His “no” can be an act of protection.
6. Grow Spiritually
Ask God to develop your character and capacity for the things you are requesting.
7. Obey God’s Word
Prayer should be accompanied by obedience and a life that honors God.
8. Give Thanks While You Wait
Thank God not only for what He has already done but also for what you trust Him to do.
Prayer for Answered Prayers
Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, I thank You because You are the God who hears and answers prayer. I come before You with faith and confidence, knowing that You hear me when I call upon You.
Father, let every prayer I have prayed according to Your will receive divine attention. Where Your answer is “yes,” let the door open. Where Your answer is “wait,” give me patience and grace to trust Your timing. Where Your answer is “no,” give me the wisdom to understand that Your plans are better than mine.
Lord, remove every obstacle standing between me and the fulfillment of Your purpose for my life. Give me wisdom, strength, patience, and spiritual maturity to receive everything You have ordained for me.
Father, let every delayed testimony receive divine intervention. Let every closed door that You have ordained to open be opened. Let every impossible situation receive Your supernatural touch.
Help me not to run ahead of You. Help me not to create Ishmaels when You have prepared Isaacs. Help me to trust You even when I cannot understand Your timing.
Lord, turn my waiting season into a testimony. Turn my tears into laughter, my sorrow into joy, my prayers into praise, and my expectation into celebration.
Give me the grace to obey Your Word. Let my life be pleasing to You. Let my character grow alongside my blessings, and let me become spiritually mature enough to handle everything You place in my hands.
Father, answer me according to Your perfect will. Let my testimony bring glory to Your name and encourage others to trust You.
I declare that I will not give up in prayer. I will not lose faith. I will not abandon my confidence in God. I believe that God hears me, God sees me, God is working for me, and at the appointed time, I will testify of His faithfulness.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Conclusion: Keep Praying and Keep Trusting God
God still answers prayers.
His answer may be yes, no, or wait, but His response is always connected to His wisdom, purpose, and perfect timing.
When God says yes, receive the blessing with gratitude.
When God says no, trust His wisdom.
When God says wait, remain faithful.
Do not allow delay to destroy your faith.
Do not allow unanswered questions to make you stop praying.
Do not allow disappointment to make you doubt God’s goodness.
Remember that God sees the bigger picture.
Your responsibility is to pray, believe, obey, wait, and trust.
Your prayer may be delayed, but God’s purpose is never delayed.
Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep obeying. Keep trusting. Your testimony will come at the appointed time.
Declaration
I believe God hears my prayers.
I trust God’s will for my life.
I will not be discouraged by delay.
I will not reject God’s “no.”
I will wait for God’s appointed time.
I will grow into God’s promises for my life.
I will obey His Word.
I will remain faithful in prayer.
And I will testify of the goodness and faithfulness of God.

- Father, in the name of Jesus, give me confidence in Your presence and in the power of prayer. Help me to pray according to Your will, knowing that You hear me and that You will answer me according to Your purpose.

2. Father, I come before You today asking, seeking, and knocking. Let every door that You have ordained for me be opened. Let me find what I have been seeking according to Your will.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
3. Father, increase my faith. Remove every doubt, fear, and unbelief from my heart. Help me to trust Your Word and believe that You are able to answer my prayers.

4. Lord Jesus, teach me to pray effectively in Your name. Let my prayers bring glory to the Father, and let every request that is according to Your will receive divine attention.

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”
5. Father, help me to remain in Christ and allow Your Word to remain in me. Let my desires become aligned with Your will, and let my prayers produce results that glorify You.

Prayer for God to Answer Your Prayers
6. Father, as I call upon You, answer me and reveal great and mighty things that I do not know. Give me divine direction concerning my family, future, ministry, career, and destiny.

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
7. Father, hear my cry and deliver me from every trouble, oppression, limitation, and situation that has become too difficult for me. Let Your mighty hand bring me into freedom.
Psalm 34:17 (NKJV)
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.”
8. Father, in every day of trouble, teach me to call upon You rather than depend on my own strength. Deliver me from every difficult situation and let my testimony bring glory to Your name.

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
9. O God who hears prayer, hear my voice today. Let my prayers rise before You, and let there be divine intervention in every area of my life where I need Your help.

10. Father, when I call upon You, answer me. Be with me in every difficult season, deliver me from trouble, and honor me with a testimony that will magnify Your name.

11. Father, let Your Word be fulfilled in my life. Answer me even before I call and hear me while I am still speaking. Let there be divine speed concerning the prayers I have committed into Your hands.

12. Father, strengthen my faith as I pray. Help me to believe Your Word and trust Your wisdom concerning every request I bring before You.

13. Father, hear my petitions as I come to You through Jesus Christ. Let my prayers produce testimonies that will fill my heart with joy and cause me to praise Your name.

14. Father, make my prayer life powerful, consistent, fervent, and effective. Let every prayer that I offer according to Your will produce results.

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
15. Father, I surrender every worry, fear, and anxiety to You. I bring my requests before You with thanksgiving. Let Your supernatural peace guard my heart and mind while I wait for Your answer.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Father, as I call upon You in faith and according to Your will, hear my prayers, answer me, and let every testimony appointed for my life come forth, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
POWERFUL CORPORATE PRAYER DECLARATIONS
Let us pray together:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You because You are the God who hears and answers prayer. I come before You with faith and confidence. Every prayer I have offered according to Your will, Lord, remember me today.
Let every closed door that You have ordained to be opened, open in Jesus’ name. Let every mountain standing before me move. Let every difficult situation receive divine intervention.

Let my testimony become a reason for others to trust You. Let my answered prayers bring glory to the name of Jesus.
I declare that I will not die in the place of prayer. I will live to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. I will testify that God heard me, God answered me, and God did it for me!
In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
Final Declaration
I am confident that God hears me.
God is working on my behalf.
My faith will not fail.
My prayers will not be in vain.
Doors are opening.
Divine help is coming.
My waiting season will produce a testimony.
My sorrow will turn into joy.
My prayers will become praise.
And I will testify of the faithfulness of God!
