Commanding Ancient Doors to Open
Today, we will be considering the topic “Commanding Ancient Doors to Open.” There are some doors and gates that respond to commands. Therefore, you must have the authority to command such doors and gates to open. The Bible says in Psalm 24:
“Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.” — Psalm 24:7 (NKJV)
It is interesting that the Psalm presents what sounds like a dialogue. The command is given to the gates: “Lift up your heads, O you gates!” Then comes the question, “Who is this King of glory?” The answer is given: “The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.” Then the command is repeated:
“Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.”
Again, the question comes: “Who is this King of glory?” And again, the answer comes: “The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.” Psalm 24 therefore emphasizes both the command to the gates and the identity of the King whose authority demands their opening.
There are some doors that you may have to address more than once. There are some situations where you pray once and the answer comes immediately, while there are other situations where you must continue praying, continue knocking, continue believing, and continue standing on the Word of God.
Jesus said:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7 (NKJV)
Therefore, if the door has not opened yet, keep knocking. If you have prayed and you have not seen the answer, keep praying. If you have believed in God and the situation has not changed, keep believing. Do not allow a closed door to convince you that God has abandoned you.
Pharaoh and the Door of Freedom
We also see the confrontation between Moses and Pharaoh. When Moses came to Pharaoh with God’s command concerning Israel, Pharaoh asked:
“Who is the LORD, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go?” — Exodus 5:2 (NKJV)
Pharaoh resisted God’s command and refused to release the Israelites. But Moses continued to stand before Pharaoh, and God demonstrated His power through the plagues until Pharaoh finally allowed Israel to leave Egypt.
This teaches us that there are some doors of freedom, deliverance, breakthrough, and destiny that may require persistent faith and obedience before they open.
There are doors that you have to keep knocking on until they open.
Do not stop because the first knock did not produce an answer.
Keep knocking!
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep declaring God’s Word.
Keep obeying God.
Keep moving forward.
The fact that the door has not opened yet does not mean that it will never open.
The Red Sea: When God Makes a Way Where There Seems to Be No Way
We also saw how the Red Sea opened before the children of Israel.
Israel stood before the Red Sea with Pharaoh and his army behind them. Humanly speaking, there appeared to be no way forward. But God instructed Moses to lift up his rod and stretch out his hand over the sea. Moses obeyed, and God divided the waters so that the children of Israel could pass through on dry ground.
The Bible says:
“And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.” — Exodus 14:21 (NKJV)
There was no visible road in front of them, but God created a way where there appeared to be no way.
That is why you must never conclude that there is no way simply because you cannot see one.
If there is no door, God can make a way.
If there is no path, God can create a path.
If there is no provision, God can provide.
Isaiah 43:19 says:
“Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
God specializes in making a way where there seems to be no way.
God Can Open the Door of Provision
When Hagar and Ishmael were in the wilderness, their water was eventually exhausted. Hagar placed Ishmael under a shrub and cried out. But God heard the voice of the child and spoke to Hagar. The Bible says that God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water.
The well was there, but Hagar did not see it until God opened her eyes.
Sometimes the provision you are praying for may already be within your reach, but you need God to open your eyes to see it.
May God open your eyes to see your well!
There are times when God does not create something completely new; He simply opens your eyes to recognize what He has already provided.
God also provided manna from heaven for Israel in the wilderness. When there was no ordinary source of food, God became their supernatural provider.
When there was no water, God brought water from the rock.
When there appeared to be no source of provision, God created a source of provision.
God can open the door of provision in places where there appears to be no provision.
The Jordan River Also Had to Open
The Jordan River became another barrier that Israel had to cross before entering the Promised Land. Under Joshua’s leadership, the priests carrying the ark stepped into the Jordan, and God stopped the waters so that the people could cross on dry ground.
Joshua did not manufacture the miracle; God opened the way as Israel obeyed His instruction.
Later, Elijah and Elisha also crossed the Jordan in a miraculous way. Elijah struck the waters with his mantle, and the waters divided. After Elijah was taken up, Elisha returned and struck the Jordan with Elijah’s mantle, declaring:
“Where is the LORD God of Elijah?”
The waters divided, and Elisha crossed over.
This teaches us something powerful:
If God has opened a way before, He is still able to open a way again.
God is not limited to one miracle.
Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
The Door of Provision in Samaria
There was also a time when severe famine came upon Samaria. Food became extremely scarce, and the situation appeared hopeless.
But Elisha spoke a prophetic word:
“Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel…” — 2 Kings 7:1 (NKJV)
What appeared impossible became possible because God intervened.
God opened the door of provision through His prophetic word.
The situation changed suddenly.
Therefore, do not allow today’s shortage to make you believe that tomorrow must remain the same.
God can change your situation.
God can open a door of provision.
God can create opportunities where none existed.
God can turn scarcity into abundance.
God can make a way in the wilderness.
The Stone at the Tomb: When the Door of Death Could Not Hold Jesus
When Jesus Christ was crucified, His body was placed in a tomb, and a large stone was placed at its entrance. Human authorities also took precautions to secure the tomb.
But the stone could not stop the resurrection.
The Gospel of Matthew tells us that an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled back the stone from the door of the tomb. Jesus then rose from the dead.
The stone represented a barrier, but it could not prevent God’s purpose from being fulfilled.
There may be a stone standing before you today.
There may be a barrier that appears too large.
There may be a situation that appears permanently closed.
But if God has ordained that the door must open, no stone can permanently stop His purpose.
You can speak to ancient doors.
You can speak to gates.
You can pray concerning closed doors.
You can call upon the God who opens doors that no man can shut.
No matter how ancient the door is, it is not more ancient than the Ancient of Days.
No matter how strong the gate is, it is not stronger than the power of God.
There Are Different Ways Ancient Doors Can Open
There are different ways to confront ancient doors.
Some doors open through prayer.
Some doors open through praise.
Some doors open through worship.
Some doors open through obedience.
Some doors open through persistent faith.
Some doors open through prophetic declaration.
Some doors open because God sends people to help you.
And some doors open because God Himself intervenes.
We must therefore learn to discern what God is requiring from us in each situation.
The Walls of Jericho: When Obedience and Praise Bring Down a Barrier
There were thick walls of Jericho standing between the children of Israel and the land God had promised them.
Israel could not simply walk through those walls.
But God gave Joshua specific instructions.
They marched around Jericho according to God’s command, and on the appointed day they shouted. When they obeyed God’s instructions and shouted, the walls of Jericho fell.
The lesson is powerful:
There are some doors that open through obedience and praise.
Your praise is not merely a song.
Your worship is not merely an emotional expression.
Your obedience to God’s instruction matters.
Sometimes what God asks you to do may not make sense naturally, but obedience positions you to experience what He has promised.
Paul and Silas: When Prayer and Praise Open Prison Doors
Paul and Silas were imprisoned because of their ministry.
Their feet were fastened in stocks, and they were inside the prison at midnight.
But instead of allowing their circumstances to silence them, they prayed and sang praises to God.
Then something supernatural happened.
“Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.” — Acts 16:26 (NKJV)
Their prayer and praise were followed by a supernatural intervention.
The prison doors opened.
Their chains were loosed.
And interestingly, the miracle did not affect Paul and Silas alone. The other prisoners also experienced the opening of the prison doors.
This teaches us that your breakthrough can become a blessing to other people.
Your prayer can affect your family.
Your worship can affect your household.
Your testimony can encourage somebody else.
Your deliverance can become a pathway through which someone else experiences freedom.
You have the ability, through your relationship with God and obedience to Him, to become an instrument of freedom and blessing to others.
You Must Experience Freedom So You Can Help Others
There is another principle here.
Jesus Christ died and rose again so that we could receive salvation and new life.
Paul explains our identification with Christ in terms of dying and rising with Him:
“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” — Colossians 3:3 (NKJV)
Romans 6 also teaches that believers are united with Christ in His death and resurrection.
Therefore, the believer’s new life is rooted in what Christ accomplished.
Jesus died, and we identify with Him in His death.
Jesus rose, and we are called to walk in the newness of life.
Jesus ascended, and our position and identity are connected with Him.
Ephesians 2:6 says that God “raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Therefore, if the grave could not hold Jesus, we must understand that the power of Christ has brought us into a new life.
And Jesus said:
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt y ou.” — Luke 10:19 (NKJV)
God has given His people authority in Christ.
Some Gates Must Be Removed
There are some doors that you do not simply wait for to open. There are some barriers that must be removed.
When Samson arrived at Gaza, the men of the city shut the gate against him. Samson arose at midnight, took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and their two gateposts, pulled them up, and carried them away.
The Scripture says he carried them to the top of the hill before Hebron.
This is a remarkable picture of a gate that was not merely opened—it was removed from its place.
Therefore, there are times when you need to pray:
“Lord, remove every barrier standing against Your purpose for my life.”
You do not need to have the key to every gate.
If God gives you the grace and authority to remove a barrier, the barrier can be removed.
If you do not have the key, pray.
If you do not have the key, praise.
If you do not have the key, obey God.
If you do not have the key, trust God to intervene.
The answer is not always in having a physical key.
Sometimes the answer is in knowing the God who holds the keys.
When You Cannot Open the Gate, God Can Send Help
When Peter was imprisoned, the early Church gathered and prayed earnestly for him.
Peter was not even praying alone.
The Church was praying for Peter.
Then God sent an angel.
The angel entered the prison, woke Peter, and instructed him to arise. Peter’s chains fell off, and he followed the angel. They came to the iron gate leading into the city, and the Bible says:
“which opened to them of its own accord.” — Acts 12:10 (NKJV)
What Peter could not open by his own strength, God opened for him.
This is encouraging.
There are some gates that you cannot open by yourself.
There are some doors beyond your influence.
There are some barriers beyond your ability.
But God can open the gates that you cannot open.
God can send help.
God can send an angel.
God can send a person.
God can create an opportunity.
God can make the gate open of its own accord.
God Can Use People to Open Doors
There are also doors that God can cause people to open for you.
Joseph was brought before Pharaoh, and Pharaoh elevated him to a position of authority in Egypt.
Mordecai was publicly honored by King Ahasuerus after the king recognized his service.
David also brought Mephibosheth into his household and gave him a place at the king’s table.
These accounts remind us that God can use people in positions of authority and influence as instruments in the fulfillment of His purposes.
Therefore, do not despise human relationships.
Do not despise divine connections.
Do not despise people whom God brings into your life.
Sometimes God will open a door directly.
Sometimes He will give you wisdom to walk through a door.
And sometimes He will send someone who has the authority to open a door that you could not open yourself.
Command the Ancient Doors to Open
So, whatever door has been closed against you, bring it before God.
Whatever ancient gate has resisted you, take it before the Lord.
Whatever barrier has stood for years, do not conclude that it is stronger than God.
The Bible says:
“For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.” — Psalm 5:12 (NKJV)
And Revelation 3:8 reminds us of the authority of Christ:
“See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it.”
Your confidence is not ultimately in your ability to command a door. Your confidence is in the One whose authority is greater than every door, gate, barrier, opposition, and circumstance.
The King of Glory is still the King of Glory.
He is still strong and mighty.
He is still mighty in battle.
He is still the Lord of hosts.
Therefore, lift up your head.
Lift up your faith.
Lift up your voice.
Lift up your prayer.
Lift up your praise.
And declare the Word of God over every situation that concerns you.
Ancient doors, hear the word of the Lord!
Everlasting gates, lift up your heads!
Let the King of Glory come in!
Let the doors of opportunity open.
Let the doors of provision open.
Let the doors of divine favor open.
Let the doors of freedom open.
Let the doors of restoration open.
Let the doors of purpose open.
Let the doors that God has ordained for your life open.
And above all, may every door that God opens lead you into His will and bring glory to His name.

- Father, I come before You again concerning every ancient door that has remained closed against me—let those doors open in Jesus’ name. Every gate that has resisted previous prayers, hear the word of the Lord and lift up your head! I refuse to become discouraged because a door did not open the first time I prayed. Let every repeated cycle of delay and disappointment come to an end.

Father, open doors for my gifts and abilities to serve Your purposes. Let every door You open produce eternal impact rather than merely temporary success. Open doors for evangelism, discipleship, missions, Christian education, and spiritual transformation. Let every platform You give me become an avenue for Christ to be known and glorified.

10. Father, You are the God who opened the doors of heaven and provided manna for Israel; show Yourself as my Provider. Lord, open doors of provision according to Your will for my needs. 13. Father, let every prison door restricting my progress be opened by Your power. Every chain that has kept me bound, break in the name of Jesus. Lord, shake every foundation of captivity that is contrary to Your purpose for my life. Open doors that no human being can open. Let every limitation that has restricted my movement be removed according to Your will. Father, turn my place of confinement into a place of testimony. Let my deliverance become a source of encouragement and freedom for others. As You opened the prison doors for Paul and Silas, demonstrate Your power in situations where human strength is insufficient. Give me grace to pray and praise even in difficult circumstances.

14. Father, establish the doors You have opened for me so that they will not be prematurely closed. Let every door of legitimate opportunity remain open according to Your will. Lord, give me wisdom to sustain what You have entrusted to me. Open gates of influence through which I can become a blessing to others. Let the work of my hands attract opportunities that are consistent with Your purpose. Father, bring the right relationships, resources, partnerships, and opportunities into my life. Let every season of restoration produce lasting fruit. Give me wisdom to steward open doors so that I will not lose what You have entrusted to me through carelessness or disobedience.

15. Father, keep my heart established in the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Lord, let nothing in this present world cause me to lose sight of the eternal kingdom. Keep me faithful until the end. Let my greatest pursuit not be earthly doors but the presence and kingdom of God. Father, help me to live in such a way that my life continually points people toward Christ. Let every earthly opportunity You give me serve Your eternal purpose. Keep me from compromising my faith for temporary opportunities, wealth, recognition, or influence. Lord, preserve me in faith until I enter into the fullness of Your eternal promises.

- Let every God-ordained opportunity that has been delayed come into manifestation at the appointed time!
- Let every adversary standing against a God-ordained door be overcome according to the power and wisdom of God!
- Let the Lord go before me and prepare the way!
- Let my eyes be opened to recognize the doors God has already placed before me!
- Let my ears hear divine instructions concerning every new door!
- Let me have the courage to walk through every door God opens!
- Let me have the wisdom to refuse every door God has not ordained!
- Let the King of Glory come into every area of my life!
- Let every open door become an avenue for God’s glory and not an occasion for pride!
- Let my open doors become opportunities to bless others!
- Let my testimony of God’s faithfulness become a source of hope to those who are still waiting for their doors to open!
- Father, open what You want opened, close what You want closed, and give me discernment to know the difference!
FINAL PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus, I acknowledge that You are the ultimate opener of doors. You have the authority to open doors that no man can shut and to shut doors that no man can open. I therefore bring every ancient door, everlasting gate, barrier, limitation, prison door, door of provision, door of opportunity, and door of divine purpose before You.
Go before me, Lord. Make the crooked places straight. Break the gates of bronze. Cut the bars of iron. Open the doors that You have ordained for me. Give me wisdom to recognize them, courage to enter them, humility to steward them, and discernment to know which doors are not from You.
Let the King of Glory come into my life, my family, my ministry, my career, my business, my relationships, and every assignment You have entrusted to me.
Where there is no way, make a way. Where there is a barrier, remove it. Where there is a prison, open the door. Where there is scarcity, provide. Where there is opposition, give victory. Where there is an opportunity, give wisdom. Where there is a divine assignment, give grace to fulfill it.
I declare that my confidence is not in the strength of my voice but in the authority of the God whom I serve.
The Lord is strong and mighty.
The Lord is mighty in battle.
The Lord of hosts is the King of Glory.
