Pray That God Will Create In You A Clean Heart

Pray That God Will Create In You A Clean Heart

Today, you should pray that God will create in you a clean heart. This was the prayer of David when he was laid bare and unashamed before God. Before this moment, he had committed adultery by taking Uriah’s wife and then orchestrating Uriah’s death along with the deaths of other soldiers. God confronted him with his sin through the Prophet Nathan. David admitted his wrongdoing and sought God’s forgiveness with sincere repentance. Unlike many who deny their sins even when caught, David fasted and prayed for forgiveness, showing true remorse. Although the child born from his adultery died, God still showed David mercy by giving him another son through Bathsheba, Solomon, who later ruled Israel.

The Difference Between David and Saul

The difference between David and Saul was that David acknowledged his sins and sought repentance, while Saul was more concerned with saving face. Saul did not truly admit his sins; instead, he asked Samuel to honor him before the people and tried to justify his disobedience by claiming he brought animals for sacrifice to God. Saul forgot that God knows the intentions of our hearts. In contrast, David repented and cried out to God for a clean heart. From then on, David strived to live righteously before God.

Saul, however, continued to sin. After realizing that God had left him and chosen David, Saul repeatedly tried to kill David. In one of these attempts, he killed all the priests of God, believing they sided with David because one had given David holy bread and the sword of Goliath. Saul’s sins continued as he later consulted mediums, further angering God.

When God confronts you with your sins, you should be honest and unashamed. Cry out to God for forgiveness, as David did. Assure God that you will not return to those sins and pray for the strength to live a life that pleases Him. Ask God to create in you a clean heart and to renew a right spirit within you. If God could show mercy to David, He will also have mercy on you.
