Faith In God’s Promises

Faith In God’s Promises

As a believer, you need to have faith in God’s promises. The Bible is full of God’s promises, we need faith in the Word of God to claim those promises. When we pray, we need to pray a prayer of faith. We can only claim God’s promises by faith. All the heroes of faith mentioned in the book of Hebrews chapter 11 talked about how these heroes obtained God’s promises by faith. Faith is the currency for purchasing God’s promises. The scripture says that you should buy the truth and sell it not. You can purchase those promises in the Word of God not with money but by faith.

The Word of God is real and not just a fiction. It is faith that makes the Word of God a reality. That is why Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Substance means solidity, concreteness or tangibility. Substance is the real physical matter of which a person or thing consists and which has a tangible, solid presence. Therefore, faith makes the Word of God tangible. It will be so evident that the people will see it. The Word has the capacity to become flesh. Faith makes your hope evident for all to see. Faith turns your imagination to reality. God can do exceedingly abundantly above what you ask or think according to the power that is at work within you. However, you must ask in faith and you must think faith thoughts.

Holding Fast to God’s Promises

When God promised Abraham that He would become the father of many nations, his faith in the Word of God turned that promise to a reality. By faith, the three Hebrews went into the fire and came out unhurt. Faith ceased the power of the fire. By faith, Daniel went into the lion’s den and came out alive. Faith shut the mouth of the lions because the angels of God responded to the faith of Daniel. David conquered Goliath by faith and he cut off the head of the giant using the giant’s sword. He told Goliath that he would cut off his head even when he had no sword and he did because he had faith.

Peter walked on water when he had faith. When doubt crept in, he began to sink. Jesus told Peter to come and he held onto the Word of Jesus and walked on water. He literally walked on the word of God. You can also walk on water if you believe in the Word of God. Any time you doubt the Word of God you will begin to sink. Your water can still turn to wine if you have faith in God’s promises. As you pray the prayer of faith today, I pray that God will fulfill all His promises in your life in Jesus’ name.

Examples of Those Who Have Faith In God’s Promises

Here are examples of individuals in the Bible who demonstrated faith in God’s promises:

  1. Joshua and Caleb

Unlike the other spies, Joshua and Caleb believed in God’s promise that the Israelites could conquer the Promised Land. Their faith is described in Numbers 14:6-9 and Joshua 14:6-14.

  2. Elizabeth and Zechariah

They believed in God’s promise that they would have a son, John the Baptist, despite their old age. Their faith is noted in Luke 1:5-25.

  3. Hannah

Hannah prayed fervently for a child and trusted in God’s promise, dedicating her son Samuel to the Lord when her prayer was answered. Her story is found in 1 Samuel 1:10-20.

  4. Noah

Noah believed God’s promise of saving his family from the flood and faithfully built the ark according to God’s instructions. His faith is highlighted in Genesis 6:13-22 and Hebrews 11:7.

     5. The Apostle Paul

Paul had faith in God’s promises regarding his mission and the spread of the gospel. Despite numerous hardships, he trusted in God’s plan and promise of eternal life. His faith is evident throughout his letters, such as in 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank you for increasing my faith in your promises. God, I pray that just like Noah had faith in your promises and he was not destroyed by the flood, I claim all your promises for my life by faith in Jesus’ name.

Hebrews 11:7 (NIV)

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

2. Father, I thank you for blessing me with the gift of faith. God, I pray that just like Joshua and Caleb had faith in your promises and they entered the promised land, I pray that I will enter the promised land by faith in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will destroy the spirit of doubt in me in Jesus’ name.

Numbers 14:6-9 (NIV)

Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. 8 If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”

3. Father, I pray that you will fulfill all your promises for my life as I put my faith in you. God, I pray that just as you answered Hannah and gave her a son when she had faith in your promises for a son, you will give me all my heart desires in Jesus’ name.

1 Samuel 1:10-11 (NIV)

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

4. Father, I pray that you will increase my faith in your promises in Jesus’ name. God, I pray that just like Apostle Paul had faith in your promises and he received the crown of righteousness, I pray that I will not lose my crown in Jesus’ name.,

2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NIV)

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing

Trusting in God’s Plan

5. Father, I pray that you will bring all your promises to fulfillment in my life in Jesus’ name. .

Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.

6. Father, I pray that you will give me the grace to have faith in your promises and not to doubt your Words. Lord, I pray that I will not make the mistake of Zechariah who doubted your promises. Father, I believe all your promises and I pray that it will be unto me according to your Words.

Luke 1:18-20 (NIV)

Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” 19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

7. Father, I pray that all the things that you have promised me in your Words will come to pass in Jesus’ name.

Luke 5:4-6 (NIV)

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

Holding onto God’s Faithfulness
