Praying For The Fire Of The Holy Spirit
Today, we are going to be praying for the fire of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the baptizer with the Holy Spirit and fire. It is true that Jesus came to save the world from their sins. However, we need the Holy Spirit to convict the world of their sins and to come into true repentance. We also need the fire of the Holy Spirit to carry out the assignment that Jesus gave us which is to go into the world and preach the gospel.
The Fire of The Holy Spirit

The Red Flame
In 1998, I listened to one of the messages of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. The message’s title is “His Ministers Flame of Fire”. He talked about different categories of flames. They are the Red flame, the Blue Flame and the White flame. He described the kind of fire in Elijah as a Red flame. This kind of fire is somehow lousy and that is the kind of fire upon Elijah. He called down fire on the captains of fifty and destroyed them when they came to arrest him. During his combat with the 450 prophets of Baal, God answered by fire and He destroyed all the prophets of Baal. Also, he was taken up to heaven by a chariot of fire. So, Elijah was a fiery Prophet.

The Blue Flame
In the case of Elisha, Pastor E.A. Adeboye explained that his fire was like a Blue flame. His fire looked friendlier than the Red flame but yet very powerful. Elisha in his own case, when they wanted to arrest him, he did not call down fire on the arrester. Instead he blindfolded them and took them to the king and he told the king to feed them. For God to entrust you with this level of fire, he must be sure that you will not misuse it. You must be meek and not use that power rashly. Elisha did greater exploits than Elijah. He had the double portion of the Spirit of Elisha and he was even more gentle.

The White Flame
The category of God’s type of fire is White flame. This fire can keep the bush burning, yet not consumed. Our God is a consuming fire. However, he came down into the fiery furnace yet the three Hebrews were not consumed. The fire only destroyed their bondage. If you need this kind of fire, you need to be like God Himself. So, when the bible says that Jesus Christ will baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire, you need to let Him know the category of fire that you want.
How To Catch The Fire of The Holy Spirit
Daddy E.A. Adeboye later explained that if you want to catch this fire, you can get it from God directly or go to a man of God who has this fire already and fetch it from him through laying of hands. After I listened to this message, I was pricked in my heart. I listened to the message over and over again and I interlized it. I was determined to catch the fire through Pastor E.A. Adeboye. He mentioned in that message that for a wood to catch the fire, that wood must be dried and not wet. He likened that to fasting and prayer and living a life of holiness.
In 1999 January, I decided to wait upon God through fasting and prayers so that He would baptize me with this fire. I proposed in my heart that I will go to Pastor E.A Adeboye so that he can pray and lay hands on me. I wrote him a letter and paid him a visit at the Redemption Camp Nigeria.. On the twenty-eighth day of my waiting upon God on January 28th, 1999, he prayed for me and laid hands on me. Words cannot describe that experience. I felt a form of electric waves all over my body and God baptized me with the fire of the Holy Spirit. My ministry has witnessed a new turn since then. Just like Saul became a new man when Samuel anointed him, I knew that something changed in my life.
The Upper Room Experience
Just like the Apostles and other disciples waited at the upper room for the promise of Jesus Christ, you can also wait upon God until you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire. All Jesus wants from you is a thirst. The fire can fall on you directly from God and Jesus can use a man of God who has the fire already to lay hands on you and you will receive the baptism of fire. Jesus instructed the disciples to wait at the upper room until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire before they could start their ministry. You need this baptism of fire for you to be a true witness. As we pray today, I pray that God will baptize you with fire in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Points:
- Father, I thank you for the promise of the Holy Spirit and fire. Lord, I thank you for igniting the fire of the Holy Spirit in the Church on the day of Pentecost.
Isaiah 12:4-5
In that day you will say: “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.
2. Father, I pray that you will baptize me with your Holy Spirit and fire. Lord, I pray that you will set me ablaze for yourself in Jesus’ name
Luke 3:16
John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
3. Father, I pray that you will test the genuineness of my faith by your fire. Lord, I pray that this will result into your glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus’ Christ
1 Peter 1:7
So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
4. Father, I pray that you will baptize me with your Holy Spirit and fire and give me the grace to evangelize my world in Jesus’ name
Acts 2:3-4
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5. Father, I pray that the fire of your Holy Spirit will consume every impurities in me in Jesus’ name
Revelation 20:9
And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them.
6. Father, I pray that you will give me another advocate, the Holy Spirit, according to your promise in Jesus’ name
John 14:16
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.
7. Father, I pray that you will baptize me with your Holy Spirit and fire in Jesus’ name. Lord, you have promised me this good gift, so I pray that you fulfill this promise in my life in Jesus’ name
Luke 11:13
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
8. Father, I pray that you will give me power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray for the power to witness about you in my Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth in Jesus’ name
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
9. Father, I pray that you will fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that I will preach the gospel boldly through the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name
Acts 4:31
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
10. Father, I pray that everyone that comes in contact with me will receive the fire of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name.
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
11. Father, I pray that my faith will increase and for the grace to build up myself by constantly praying in the Holy Spirit.
Jude 1:20-21
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
12. Father, I pray that you will put your Spirit in me and move me to follow your decrees and to keep your laws in Jesus’ name
Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
13. Father, I pray that all those who are still wallowing in sins will repent and be baptized by the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name
Acts 2:38
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
14. Father, I pray for the grace to constantly obey you so that I can be filled with the Holy Spirit continually in Jesus’ name
Acts 5:32
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
15. Father, I pray that you will fill me with the Spirit of truth and with the grace to constantly testify about Jesus Christ in Jesus’ name
John 15:26
When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.
16. Father, I pray the fire of the Holy Spirit will spread from every individual in BKCC to our city. To our nation and to the end of the earth in Jesus’ name
Acts 19:5-6
On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
