Pray That God Will Increase Your Faith
Pray That God Will Increase Your Faith
Today, we pray that God will increase our faith. In Luke 17:5, the apostles asked Jesus, “Increase our faith!” after Jesus had just taught them challenging lessons about forgiveness. In the preceding verses (Luke 17:3-4), Jesus told the disciples that they must forgive someone who sins against them repeatedly, even if it happens seven times in a day, as long as the person repents. This level of forgiveness seemed overwhelming and difficult for them to grasp or practice.
The apostles realized that their human ability to forgive was insufficient, and they needed a greater amount of faith to obey Jesus’ command. They recognized that it was only through an increased faith in God that they could live out such a high standard of love and mercy.
Therefore, their prayer for increased faith came from the understanding that spiritual maturity and obedience require divine empowerment. They wanted a deeper trust in God and a stronger reliance on His power to enable them to live out His teachings fully. You can also pray to God to increase your faith.
Pray for Courage to Step Out in Faith
In Mark 9:24, there was a father who had an interaction with Jesus where he was desperate for his son to be healed. The boy’s father exclaims, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief! ”The reason for this prayer stems from the man’s inner conflict between faith and doubt.
The father had brought his son, who was possessed by a spirit, to Jesus’ disciples, but they were unable to heal him. When Jesus arrived, the father asked Him for help, expressing some doubt by saying, “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us” (Mark 9:22). Jesus responded by challenging the man’s faith, saying, “Everything is possible for one who believes” (Mark 9:23).
The father’s prayer, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief,” reveals both his faith and his struggle with doubt. He believes in Jesus’ power, but the reality of his difficult situation had caused him to waver. He acknowledges that his faith is not perfect and asks for help to overcome the areas where his belief is weak.
This prayer is significant because it shows that even when faith is imperfect, we can still bring it to God. The man’s honesty and humble request for help with his unbelief resonates with anyone who has struggled with doubt while still wanting to trust in God’s power. The father’s plea was answered as Jesus healed his son, demonstrating that even imperfect faith, when placed in God, can result in His power being manifested. Are you also weak in faith? You can pray to God today to increase your faith.
