Praying for Nations through Prophetic Words
Praying for Nations through Prophetic Words
Today, we will be praying for nations through prophetic words. The power of prayer and repentance can bring healing to a nation. In Jeremiah 29:7, God calls His people to pray for the peace and prosperity of the places where they live. God can punish the sins of individuals and He can also punish the sin of a nation. When God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, it was due to the sin of these cities. The punishment of a nation who has sinned can invariably affect the righteous in that nation. Although, when God punished the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, He spared Lot and his family, but they lost their business empire. This shows us that we need to constantly pray for our nations so that they can live righteously.
We can pray for nations through prophetic words. The book of Isaiah 62:6-7 (NIV) says, “I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.” This is a call to persistent prayer for Jerusalem until God’s promises are fulfilled. As a believer, you can pray and give yourself no rest until the plans and purpose of God is fulfilled in your nation.
Declaring Prophetic Promises Over Nations
Also, the book of Ezekiel 22:30 (NIV) says, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” That shows that when you don’t have intercessors who will pray and stand in the gap for a nation through prophetic words, the nation can be destroyed. God seeks intercessors who will stand in the gap for their nation. Abraham stood in the gap for Sodom and Gomorrah so that God will not destroy the cities. He prayed until God agreed with him that if He sees ten righteous people in the land, He would not destroy the cities. Unfortunately, God could not find ten righteous people in the cities and He destroyed them.
In the case of the city of Nineveh, the king commanded that everyone should fast and pray for three days so that God can spare the city. They all repented of their sins and they fasted and prayed to God. Even the pregnant women and the animals fasted and God changed His mind. Many nations have been destroyed today because there were no intercessors. In the book of Daniel 9:17-19, Daniel prayed and stood in the gap for his nation, Israel. Daniel’s prayer for his nation shows the impact of interceding for a nation’s restoration. One person can stand in the gap for a nation and likewise a group of people. We can pray for nations through prophetic words.
Standing in the Gap for Nations Through Prophetic Prayers
God encourages us to pray for leaders and authorities, impacting the nation (1 Timothy 2:1-2). This scripture said that when we do this, we will live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Psalm 2:8 (NIV) says, “Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” This is a prophetic invitation to pray for nations to come under God’s rule. God is willing to make nations your inheritance and the ends of the earth your possessions. So, stop asking for petty things when you can ask God for nations. Also, Isaiah 56:7 (NIV) says, “For my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” This verse shows us that the believers are mandated to pray for all nations. This is a declaration of God’s desire for His people to pray for all nations.
In the book of Nehemiah 1:4-6, Nehemiah prayed and wept for his nation because the walls had broken down. Nehemiah’s prayer for his nation’s restoration is a powerful example of intercessory prayer. He prayed and took action and he rebuilt the walls of the city. You can also pray for your nation through prophetic words. You can pray for God to act powerfully in your nation’ and your prayer can restore peace and righteousness to that nation. Psalm 122:6 (NIV) says, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure.’” This is a call to pray for the peace and security of nations. If there is no peace and security in a nation, it could be as a result of lack of intercessors.
Shaping Nations through Prophetic Intercession
Through the power of intercessory prayer you can avert judgment on a nation (Amos 7:2-3). You can also pray for God’s blessings upon a nation. Zechariah 10:1 (NIV) says, “Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.” If there is scarcity or famine in a nation, you can stand in the gap and there shall be rain and abundance. A prophetic word from Elisha ended the famine in Samaria and there was a great abundance. That is how powerful prophetic words in your mouth can be.
You can also pray for God’s will to be done in nations as it is in heaven. This should be a central part of your intercession. Jesus Christ was teaching His disciples how to pray in the book of Matthew. Matthew 6:10 (NIV) says, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” This is one major prayer that God expects to pray for all nations of the earth. As we continue to pray as believers, one day, the kingdom of this world will become the kingdom of our God. As you pray for nations today through prophetic words, I pray that God will answer your prayers in Jesus’ name.
