Praying for Prophetic Clarity
Praying for Prophetic Clarity
Today, we will be praying for prophetic clarity. In Jeremiah 33:3, God promises to reveal deep and hidden things when we seek Him, emphasizing clarity in His revelations. Jesus normally speaks to his disciples in clear terms while He mostly speaks to others in parables. Prophetic clarity is very important. There was a time when God was calling Samuel in the early days of his prophetic ministry and he thought that it was Eli that was speaking to him. Eli had to educate him that although the voice sounded like his, this was God speaking to him. Many times God might be speaking to us and we might think that we are hearing the voice of men. This will make us respond to men instead of responding to God. Prophetic clarity is very important so that you can know the proper response when God is calling you.
In the book of Habakkuk 2:2, God instructs Habakkuk to write the vision clearly so that it can be understood and acted upon. God told him to write down the revelation and make it plain. If the vision is ambiguous it will not be easy to follow. You can not run with a vision that is ambiguous. That is why we need to pray for prophetic clarity. Daniel 2:22 (NIV) says, “He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.”
Hearing God Clearly: The Importance of Prophetic Clarity
God is the source of all knowledge and clarity, revealing mysteries to those who seek Him. God can speak to you in diverse ways. He could speak to you through dreams or visions. God could speak to you as you read the scriptures. He can also speak to you as you listen to sermons or read Christian literature. However, despite the fact that God speaks through so many ways, it is possible for Him to speak and yet you don’t have clarity.
God spoke to several kings in the bible through dreams, yet they did not understand the meaning of the dreams and they were looking for interpreters. When God revealed the time of abundance and time of famine to king Pharaoh through dreams, he did not understand. Pharaoh dreamt about cows and about grains which literally seemed not to have any relevance to years of abundance and famine. Thank God for revealing the meaning of the dreams to Joseph, the nation of Egypt would have experienced a great famine due to lack of clarity of the dream. This shows that prophetic clarity is highly important.
In the book of Daniel, there were two kings who had dreams but did not understand their interpretations:
1. King Nebuchadnezzar (Babylonian King)
- Dream of the Great Statue: In Daniel 2, King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed of a giant statue made of different materials (gold, silver, bronze, iron, and clay). None of his wise men could interpret the dream. Daniel, through divine revelation, explained that the statue represented successive kingdoms, starting with Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon (the head of gold) and ending with a divided kingdom symbolized by iron and clay. A rock, not cut by human hands, smashed the statue, symbolizing God’s eternal kingdom. This shows that it is possible to have a dream without prophetic clarity. It is possible for you to operate in darkness and not understand what God is saying while He is speaking to you..
- Dream of the Great Tree: In Daniel 4, Nebuchadnezzar had another dream about a great tree that was cut down, leaving only a stump. This dream symbolized Nebuchadnezzar’s fall from power and temporary insanity due to his pride, followed by his restoration once he acknowledged God’s sovereignty. Again, none of his wise men could interpret the dream, and Daniel was called to provide the interpretation.
2. King Belshazzar (Babylonian King)
- Writing on the Wall: In Daniel 5, King Belshazzar, Nebuchadnezzar’s successor, saw a mysterious hand writing on the wall during a feast. The message read “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin,” but none of his wise men could understand or interpret it. Daniel was summoned and revealed that the writing predicted the end of Belshazzar’s reign and the fall of Babylon to the Medes and Persians due to Belshazzar’s arrogance and blasphemy against God.
The Significance of Daniel’s Role
Daniel’s ability to interpret these dreams demonstrated God’s power and wisdom, contrasting sharply with the impotence of the pagan wise men. His interpretations not only revealed future events but also emphasized the sovereignty of God over earthly kingdoms. These stories illustrate how God used dreams to communicate His will to kings and how He empowered Daniel to reveal His divine messages. Without a prophetic clarity, God might be speaking and yet you won’t understand.
Misinterpreting The Scriptures Due to Lack of Prophetic Clarity
Jesus preached several sermons and the Pharisees and Saduccess did not understand him. Jesus would speak to them through parables and give the disciples the interpretation. They had eyes, yet they could not see. They had ears, yet they could not hear. This shows that you can come to the Church service and listen to sermons and still don’t understand what the preacher is talking about.
Even the disciples did not understand some of the things that Jesus Chrsit told them. Peter rebuked Jesus Christ at a time telling him that He would not die on the cross. Meanwhile, the salvation of mankind depends on Jesus’ death on the cross. The disciples deserted Jesus when He died on the cross and they did not realize that He would resurrect on the third day. Although He had told them several times that He would die and resurrect on the third day, it was not really clear to them. There were so many things that Jesus taught the disciples which were only clearer after His resurrection.
When God Speaks: Gaining Clarity in Divine Revelations
Moreover, It is possible for you to read and study the scriptures and yet not understand. The Ethiopian Eunuch was studying the scripture and yet he did not understand what he was reading. The Spirit of God had to lead Phillip to him to teach him, so that he can understand the interpretation of that scriptures. The same passage which the Ethiopian Eunuch was reading later led to his salvation when Phillip properly clarified the meaning of the passage. No wonder, the scriptures say that God’s people perish due to lack of knowledge.
Also, the Word of God says that we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. It is very funny that the Chief Priest and all the teachers of the laws did not realize when the Messiah whom they had been preaching and teaching about came. They maltreated Him and killed Him thinking that they were fighting for God.
Jesus told the disciples to take along with them their sword when he was about to die on the cross, Peter went ahead to take a physical sword instead of the sword of the Spirit. Jesus also said that the people should destroy the temple and He will build it in three days, but they did not realize that He was talking about His death and resurrection. They thought that he was talking about the physical temple. Today, many are operating in darkness due to lack of prophetic clarity. In the book of John 16:13, we realize that the Holy Spirit provides clarity and guidance into all truth, including future revelations. The Holy Spirit will teach us all the truth we need to know. As we pray today, I pray that God will give us prophetic clarity in Jesus’ name.
