Praying That God Will Open The Floodgates of Heaven

Today, we will be praying that God will open the floodgates of heaven. What is a flood? A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry. This is talking about flowing water. The word is also applicable to the inflow of the tide. The opening of the floodgates of heaven is an expression describing the beginning of the deluge of Noah’s day. Floodgates are built at the end of storm sewer. During high water, floodgates prevent river water from backing through the sewer into the cities. A floodgate is a gate for shutting out, admitting, or releasing a body  of water.

The Flood That Destroyed The Earth

The first time floodgates of the heavens were mentioned in the bible was in Genesis 7:11 . When God opened these floodgates of heaven, water covered the whole earth. This water eventually destroyed all human beings on earth and all the animals. Only those who were in the ark of Noah were spared. The second time we heard about the floodgates of heaven was in Genesis 8:2. That was when God closed the floodgates of heaven so that the rain could stop. This shows that God has the capacity to open and close the floodgates of heaven.

God opened the floodgates of heaven to destroy those who were sinning against Him. He destroyed the earth because people were constantly nursing wicked imaginations and God could not stand it. He however spared Noah and his household who were righteous. When He closed the floodgates of heaven, He closed it so that the water could recede and Noah and his family could have a fresh start.

The Floodgates of Heaven In The Book of Isaiah

The third time that the floodgates of heaven was mentioned was in Isaiah 24:18. This verse symbolizes the punishment that will come upon those who refused to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.  They will not be able to escape the judgment of God. It will definitely be like the days of Noah, when the flood destroyed the earth. The verse says, The one who runs away from the sound of the terror will fall into the pit; the one who climbs out of the pit, will be trapped by the snare. For the floodgates of the heavens are opened up and the foundations of the earth shake.” It is better you give your life to Jesus now before it is too late.

The Floodgates of Heaven That Bring God’s Blessings

The floodgates of heaven was mentioned for the fourth time in Malachi 3:8. This time around, God promised that he will open the  floodgates of heaven and release His blessing upon those who have been faithful in paying their tithe. God promised to pour out His blessings without a measure. This is the type of floodgate of heavens that we will be praying for today.

When God opened the floodgates of heaven in the time of Noah, the flood covered the earth. This gives me a glimpse that the type of blessing that God will be releasing upon you will be so much that the whole world will feel the impact. Abraham had that kind of blessing. God told him that He will bless all the nations of the earth  through him. Also, when God promised you that you will lend to many nations, you need the floodgates of heaven to be able to do that. I pray that God will open the floodgates of heaven to you in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank you for daily loading me with your benefits. Lord, I thank you for opening the floodgates of heaven unto me.

Psalm 68:19

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

2. Father, I pray that you will open all the springs of the great deep and pour down your blessings upon me. Lord, I pray that you will open the floodgates of the heavens unto me and my household. Let there be an abundance of rain in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 7:11

“In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month–on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.”

3. Father, I pray that the deep and the floodgates of heaven will continually pour down your blessings. I pray that these floodgates will not close against me in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 8:2

Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky.

4. Father, your Word says, “Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate,” so, I pray for the grace to refrain from quarelling. I pray for the grace to rule my spirit and not to engage in dispute in Jesus’ name.

Proverbs 17:14

Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out.

5. Father, I pray that you will give me the grace to do your will and follow you till the end. I pray that I will escape the punishment coming upon those who do not know Christ. I pray that just like Noah and his household escape the flood, you will save me and my household from destruction in Jesus’ name.

Isaiah 24:18

The one who runs away from the sound of the terror will fall into the pit; the one who climbs out of the pit, will be trapped by the snare. For the floodgates of the heavens are opened up and the foundations of the earth shake.

6. Father, I pray that you will open the floodgates of heaven and release your blessings upon me in Jesus’ name. I pray for the grace to always pay my tithe and as I do that, you will rebuke devourer on my land in Jesus’ name.

Malachi 3:8

Bring the full tenth into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this way,” says the Lord of Hosts. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure.

Pray For Generational Blessing Through Open Heaven

7. Father, I pray you will release your generational blessings upon me in Jesus’ name. I pray that just like the flood covered the whole earth in the time of Noah, you will bless all the nations of the earth through me in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 12:1-3

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

8. Father, I pray for the grace to be fruitful and multiply. I pray that I will replenish the earth and subdue it. Lord, I pray for the grace to constantly exercise the dominion that you have given me in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

9. Father, I pray that I will prosper, and I will produce and fill the earth. I pray that you make a blessing to my generation and generations yet unborn in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 9:1-4

God blessed Noah and his sons: He said, “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill the Earth! Every living creature—birds, animals, fish—will fall under your spell and be afraid of you. You’re responsible for them. All living creatures are yours for food; just as I gave you the plants, now I give you everything else. Except for meat with its lifeblood still in it—don’t eat that.

10. Father, I pray that you will make me an everlasting pride and joy of many generations in Jesus’ name.

Isaiah 60:15

“Although you have been forsaken and hated, with no one traveling through, I will make you the everlasting pride and the joy of all generations.

11. Father, I pray that my children will be mighty in the land. I pray that my generation will be upright and blessed in Jesus’ name.

Psalm 112:2

Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

12. Father, I pray that you will give me a sworn blessing and multiply me. I pray that my seed will be like the stars of heaven and as the sand which is upon the seashore. Lord, I pray that my seeds will possess the gates of their enemies and through my seeds, you will bless all the nations of the earth.

Genesis 22:15-18

The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Pray For A Sworn Blessing Through Open Heaven

13. Father, I pray that you will bless me even in the time of famine or recession. I pray for the grace to eat the fruits of the land. Lord, perform the oath which you made to Abraham in my life and make my seed multiply like the stars of heaven. I pray that through my seeds, you will bless all the nations of the earth in Jesus’ name. I receive the grace to obey your commandments, your statutes and law in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 26:1-5

Now there was a famine in the land—besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,[b] because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.”

14. Father, I pray that as I sow in this land, I will reap a hundredfold. Lord, I pray that you bless me and I will prosper and I will continue to prosper until I become very prosperous in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 26:12-13

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. (13) The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous

15. Father, I pray that you will open the floodgates of heaven unto me and I will start to see great and mighty revelation. I pray that as from today, I will start operating in the realm of the supernatural and God will fulfill His covenant in my life in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 28:12-13

Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. (13) And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.

16. Father, I pray that you will open the floodgates of heaven to me. I pray that you will fill the earth with the knowledge of your glory as the waters cover the sea in Jesus’ name.

Habakkuk 2:14

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

17. Father, I pray that just like there was a heavy downpour of rain during the flood, you will pour out your Spirit on all people. I pray that my sons and daughters will prophesy. I pray that our young men will see visions and the old men will dream dreams in Jesus’ name.

Acts 2:17

“’In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

Joel 2:28

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
