Pray That Wayward Children Will Encounter Jesus Christ
Pray That Wayward Children Will Encounter Jesus Christ
Today, we will be praying for wayward children that they will encounter Jesus Christ. Wayward means difficult to control or predict because of unusual or perverse behavior. We have many children who have perverse behavior in the bible. Cain was the first child recorded in the bible who misbehaved. He was not pleased because his offering to God was rejected, while that of his brother, Abel, was accepted. Cain further misbehaved by killing his brother. May the Lord deliver our children from envy and jealousy that fuels waywardness in Jesus’ name.
Amnon was another child who was wayward. He lusted after Tarmar, her step sister. Despite the biblical prohibition on sexual relations between half siblings, Amnon had an overwhelming desire for Tamar. He acted on advice from his cousin, Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother, to lure Tamar into his quarters by pretending to be sick. He told David his father that he desire Tamar to cook a special meal for him and he raped her in the process. The situation in David’s home became chaotic. Absalom , the brother of Tamar, killed Amnon eventually in revenge for this dastardly act.
Examples of Wayward Children And The Consequences of Waywardness
Reuben was another wayward child who slept with Bilhah, his father’s concubine. Due to this misbehavior, Jacob cursed Reuben when he was about to die. He said that Reuben would not excel despite the fact that he was the first born. Waywardness can attract curses and that is why we need to pray for our children. Absalom also walked in the footsteps of Reuben by sleeping with his father’s concubine. He chased David, his father away from the throne. He plotted a coup to overthrow his father and dethrone him. Absalom’s end was not palatable. He died eventually. Waywardness can lead to death. This is why we need to pray for all wayward children to encounter Jesus Christ.
Lot’s daughters are another example of wayward children. They made their father drunk and slept with him. They later had a child each for their father. This act was an abomination, yet they committed the act. Samson was another wayward child. God expected him to consecrate himself but he constantly sinned against God. He eventually died prematurely. Eli’s sons, Phinehas and Hophni, were also scoundrels. They had no regard for the Lord. They treated God’s offering with contempt. As a result of their sins, they died prematurely in a war. I pray that you will not give birth to wayward children in Jesus’ name
Prayer Points
- Father, I pray that you will deliver my children from a wayward life. Lord, I pray that my children will encounter Jesus Christ and they will not misbehaved like Lot’s daughters
Genesis 19:30-32
Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.”
2. Father, I pray that you will deliver my children from ignoble desire. Lord, I pray that they will not be wayward like Amnon. I pray that you will plant your purpose and desire for godliness in their hearts in Jesus’ name
2 Samuel 13:10-11
Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food here into my bedroom so I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the bread she had prepared and brought it to her brother Amnon in his bedroom. 11 But when she took it to him to eat, he grabbed her and said, “Come to bed with me, my sister.”
3. Father, I pray that our children will not be scoundrels like the sons of Eli. Lord, I pray that my children will love the Lord and serve the Lord wholeheartedly in Jesus’ name. I pray that you will deliver my children from waywardness
1 Samuel 2:12-14
Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord. 13 Now it was the practice of the priests that, whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled 14 and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh.
4. Father, I pray that my children will have an encounter with Jesus’ Christ. I pray that my children will not go the way of Cain in Jesus’ name. Lord, deliver my children from waywardness
Genesis 4:8-9
Cain told this to his brother Abel. And when they were in the field, Cain stood up against his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
5. Father, I pray that my children will live in peace and harmony with each other and they will not be revengeful. Lord, plant in my children the spirit of forgiveness and don’t let them go the way of Absalom in Jesus’ name
2 Samuel 13:28-29
Absalom ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in high spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I given you this order? Be strong and brave.” 29 So Absalom’s men did to Amnon what Absalom had ordered. Then all the king’s sons got up, mounted their mules and fled.
6. Father, I pray that you will deliver my children from waywardness. Lord, I pray that my children will not misbehave like Reuben who invariably attracts curse into his life due to his ignoble action.
Genesis 35:22
While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard of it. Jacob had twelve sons:
7. Father, I pray that you will give me godly children who will love and serve you wholeheartedly in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that my children will not walk in the footsteps of Samson in Jesus’ name. Father, deliver my children from waywardness
Judges 16:1
One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her.
8. Father, I pray that my children will live together in unity and they will love the Lord in Jesus’ name. I pray that my children will not behave like the sons of Jacob who ganged up against their brother and sold him into slavery.
Genesis 37:18-20
Now as soon as they saw him approaching from a distance, before he arrived they plotted together to kill him. 19 “Look!” they said. “Here comes the Dream Master! 20 Come on! Let’s kill him and toss him into one of the cisterns. Then we’ll report that some wild animal devoured him and wait to see what becomes of his dreams!”
9. Father, I pray that you will deliver any of my children who are currently misbehaving like the prodigal son. Lord, I pray that you will touch the heart of such a child and let him or her come into repentance in Jesus’ name. Lord, deliver my children from waywardness
Luke 15:17-20
“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’20 So he got up and went to his father.
