Praying Against Unholy Fire
Today, we will be praying against an unholy fire. In my own definition, I will define an unholy fire as a fire that doesn’t emanate from God. This could be fire that the enemies kindle against you or the fire that emanates from your own lust and passion.
An unholy fire from the enemies
An unholy fire can be from the enemies. King Nebuchadnezzar set up an unholy fire to destroy those who refused to bow down to his idols. When the three Hebrews refused to bow down to this idol, they threw them into the fiery furnace. King Nebuchadnezzar in a bid to threaten them the more, instructed that they should make the fire seven times hotter than usual. However, his threat did not affect the resolution of the three Hebrews not to bow down to the king’s idol. The intensity of the fire destroyed those who carried the three Hebrews into the fire. However, God delivered the three Hebrews from the fire. I pray that God will quench every unholy fire that the enemies have set up against you in Jesus’ name
An unholy fire as a result of sin
An unholy fire can also be as a result of sin. David was the source of the unholy fire that destroyed some members of his household. He ignited the fire when he slept with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah. The book of Proverbs 6:27-29 says, “Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes. For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life. Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.” David was the one who invited fire into his home and it was an unholy fire.
The consequences of the sin of David
The fire that David brought into his home killed three of his children. The fire killed the first baby that Bathsheba bore for David who was the product of their sins. God had already told David in 2 Samuel 12:10 that the sword will never depart from his house because David despised Him and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be his own. Amnon, one of David’s sons, slept with his half sister, Tamar. Absalom killed Amnon because Amnon slept with his sister. Later Absalom wanted to overthrow his father David.
In the process, David ran away from the throne and Absalom slept with his father’s concubines that he left behind. David’s foot sliders fought back. Eventually, Joab, one of David’s men, killed Absalom during the war that he waged against his father. An unholy fire can be very destructive, so you should not kindle such fire. I pray that God will deliver us from an unholy fire in Jesus’ name.
An unholy fire from Satan
An unholy fire can also be from Satan. In the story of Job we realized that when God boasted about the righteousness of Job, Satan told God that Job was only righteous because. Satan posited that if God removes the hedge around Job and give him the permission to attack him, he will deny God. So, God gave Satan that permission and he launched a great attack on Job’s business, on his children and on his health too.
In Job 1: 16, the bible says, “While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” Although Job’s servants felt that this fire was from God, it was actually from Satan. The goodness is that Job didn’t end up this way. God quenched the unholy fire and promoted him in due season.
As we pray today, I pray that God will quench all forms of unholy fire in our lives in Jesus’ name.
