Praying For A Sound of Victory
Today, we will be praying for a sound of victory. There was a time when the nation of Israel was witnessing threats and harassment from Goliath. For forty days, he was terrorizing them with horrify sound. He disdained the God of Israel and challenged them to appoint one of them to combat him. All the valiant men in Israel were jittery because of the size of this giant. The sound that you are listening to can have a great impact in your life. The effect could be positive or negative depending on what type of sound.
The daily sound from Goliath paralyzed the nation of Israel until David showed up on the scene. When David showed up, he introduced a new sound. He encouraged the people believing that God will give them victory. David assured king Saul that God will fight the battle for them. He narrated his experience in the bush, how God delivered him from the bear and the lion. So, David proceeded to confront Goliath. When Goliath saw David, he made his usual sound of terror. David, unlike other soldiers, responded with a sound of victory over Goliath.
God gave David sound of victory over Goliath
When Goliath saw the size of David, he was a bit confused. He felt insulted and ridiculed to see a young boy trying to confront him. So, he roared again and said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. He said, ‘Come here, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beast of the field!” (1 Samuel 17: 43-44). When the enemies make a negative sound, you have to respond with a positive sound. You need to respond with a sound of assurance of victory.
“David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17: 45-47)
Never allow the enemies to silence you
Don’t ever allow the enemies to stifle or silence your voice. If you can just make a sound of victory even in the face of defeat, you shall be victorious. David eventually killed the Philistines with a sling and a stone. He cut off his head as he had rightly said. The most interesting part for me was that the Israelites later shouted for victory.
1 Samuel 17:51-52 says, “David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran. Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron. Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron.”
Today, as we lift up our voices to God, I pray that we will hear a sound of victory in Jesus’ name. The same God who put the Arameans to flight through a sound will give you a sound of victory in Jesus’ name.
