Strength for Inner Man

Strength for Inner Man

Strength for Inner Man is a divine provision promised by God to every believer. In Ephesians 3:16, the Apostle Paul prayed that God would “grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.” This prayer reveals that God is deeply concerned about the condition of our inner being. While much attention is often given to physical strength, success, and outward appearance, Scripture makes it clear that true victory in life begins with spiritual strength within.

The Riches of His Glory: The Measure of Our Strength

The first question that naturally arises from Ephesians 3:16 is: What are “the riches of His glory”? This phrase refers to the limitless resources of God—His power, wisdom, grace, holiness, authority, and presence. God does not strengthen us from a place of scarcity but from His abundance. His glory is inexhaustible, and therefore the strength He supplies to the inner man is not small, temporary, or fragile. It is divine, enduring, and sufficient for every challenge of life.

The Reality of a Weak Inner Man

The second truth revealed in this passage is that the inner man can be weak. If the inner man were never weak, there would be no need for prayer for strength. A weak inner man will eventually affect the outer man—our decisions, emotions, endurance, faith, and even our physical wellbeing. Many believers struggle outwardly because they are depleted inwardly. This is why Strength for Inner Man is essential for a victorious Christian life.

The Only Source of True Inner Strength

The third important point is that strength for the inner man cannot be derived from human effort, intellect, discipline, or experience. Its source is clearly stated: “through His Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is the only channel through which divine strength flows. This truth aligns with Paul’s declaration in Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Paul openly identified God as the source of his achievements, endurance, and spiritual victories.

Daily Renewal of the Inward Man

In 2 Corinthians 4:16, Paul further explains this mystery: “Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” The physical body ages, weakens, and eventually fades, but the inner man does not grow old. Instead, it experiences daily renewal through fellowship with God, prayer, the Word, and the work of the Holy Spirit. This daily renewal is a vital aspect of Strength for Inner Man.

Strength Released Through Waiting on the Lord

Isaiah 40:29–31 teaches that God gives power to the weak and increases strength to those who have none. When believers wait upon the Lord—especially through fasting and prayer—there is a supernatural exchange. Weariness is replaced with strength. Fear gives way to courage. Those who wait on the Lord mount up with wings like eagles, run without weariness, and walk without fainting. Waiting on God is not inactivity; it is a divine strategy for receiving strength.

Strength in the Soul Through Prayer

The psalmist testifies in Psalm 138:3: “In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.” This shows that prayer does not only bring answers; it produces inner strength and boldness. Likewise, Paul prayed in Colossians 1:11 that believers would be “strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy.” Running the Christian race requires endurance, and endurance is sustained by inner strength from God.

Supernatural Strength for Spiritual Battles

There are seasons when battles are fierce and overwhelming. Only those strengthened by God can stand without compromising. Samson did not win battles by natural strength alone; his strength was supernatural. In the same way, our walk with God and our victories over temptation, persecution, and adversity depend on Strength for Inner Man, not human ability.

Courage Through Waiting and Trusting God

Paul once asked, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” and listed trials that could challenge faith (Romans 8). It takes supernatural strength to face such pressures without bending or breaking. Psalm 27:14 reminds us: “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” As we wait on the Lord, fear and timidity are replaced with courage, boldness, and confidence in God.

Conclusion and Prayer

Strength for Inner Man is not optional—it is essential. It empowers us to endure trials, resist temptation, remain faithful, and fulfill our God-given purpose. May the Lord grant us, according to the riches of His glory, supernatural strength in our inner man through His Spirit.

Prayer:
Father, we ask that You strengthen us with might in our inner man through Your Spirit. Renew us daily, remove fear, and fill us with courage to stand firm in every battle. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
