Praying For The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

Day 9: 40 DAYS PRAYER, FASTING AND WORSHIP FEB 3rd to MARCH 14th, 2021. 2021, A YEAR OF NEW BEGINNING - ISAIAH 43:17-19

Short Exhortation About The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit:

Today, we will be praying for the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:1, Apostle Paul was admonishing us that he does not want the Church to be uninformed about the gifts of the Spirit. He says, “Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.” These gifts of the Spirit are the special advantage that the new testament Church has above those who lived in the old testament. The only thing that can deprive us of these spiritual gifts is ignorance. In 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, he enumerated those nine spiritual gifts which are; the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, gift of prophecy, divers kinds of tongues, the interpretation of tongues, the gift of faith, the gift of healing, and the working of miracles. All these gifts are further classified into three broad categories which are  gifts of revelation, gifts of inspiration and gifts of power. According to 1 Corinthians 14:1, for us to have all these gifts, we have to desire it.  Also, 2 Timothy 1:6 admonishes us to stir up the gifts of God. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 tells us not to quench the Spirit or despise prophecies. The major currency required from us as Christians to have all these nine gifts are righteousness and desire. Proverbs 10:24 says that, “…what the righteous desire shall be granted.” So if you don’t have these gifts, it is either you are not righteous or you don’t have a strong desire for the gifts. If these two things are in place, today as we pray, God will bestow these gifts upon you in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Points For The Gifts Of The Holy Spirt

1. Let us thank God for giving all the gifts of the Holy Spirit to edify the Church, to sustain the Church and for the Church’s benefits. In the old testament only three sets of people had access to the Holy Spirit (the kings, the priests and the prophets), but in the new testament, the Holy Spirit is accessible to all Christians. Let us thank God for this golden opportunity that we have in this dispensation

2. Lord, I pray that you will give me the gift of the word of wisdom in Jesus’ name

1 Corinthians 12:8-11

“One man’s gift by the Spirit is to speak with wisdom, another’s to speak with knowledge. The same Spirit gives to another man faith, to another the ability to heal, to another the power to do great deeds. The same Spirit gives to another man the gift of preaching the word of God, to another the ability to discriminate in spiritual matters, to another speech in different tongues. Behind all these gifts is the operation of the same Spirit, who distributes to each individual man, as he wills.”

3. Father, I pray that you will give me the gift of the word of knowledge in Jesus’ name

Acts 5:1-11

But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” 5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. 6 The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

7 After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you[a] sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.”

4. God, I pray that you will give me the gift of faith in Jesus’ name

“To another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit”

Matthew 17:20

“He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

8. God I pray that you will give me the gift of discerning of spirits in Jesus’ name

Acts 16:16-18

“16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.”

9. Father, I pray that you will give me the gifts of interpretation of tongues in Jesus’ name
