Pray That The Lord will be Your Shepherd
Pray That The Lord will be Your Shepherd
Today, we will pray that the Lord will be our Shepherd. There are many shepherds in the world. There are some who pretended to be shepherds but they are hirelings (John 12:12-13). When the hirelings see the wolf coming, they will abandon the sheep. The hirelings don’t really care for the sheep. Instead they exposed them to danger and ran away because they could not defend the sheep. The Lord who is our Shepherd will always stand by His sheep come rain come sunshine. He will never abandon you. That is why He said that he will never leave you nor forsake you.
There are some shepherds who only take care of themselves. They are self-centered and they don’t really care for the sheep (Ezekiel 34:2-10). They feed fat on the sheep while the sheep starves. Jesus Christ our Lord is not a self-centered Shepherd. He is ready to defend us to the extent that He laid down His lives for the sheep. Jesus died so that we might live. He was wounded so that we might be healed. Jesus was punished for your sins so that you might be exonerated from your sins. He became poor so that you might be rich. He went to the grave, died and resurrected so that the grave will not have dominion over you. Jesus came to rescue you from eternal damnation. That is why you need to pray that the Lord will be your Shepherd.
Let the Lord Guide You as Your Shepherd
The scriptures describe some shepherds as worthless. One of the characteristics of these worthless shepherds is that they abandon the flock (Zechariah 11:17). Jesus who is our Shepherd will never abandon you. He said even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you should not fear any evil because He is with you. He promised to be your refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble. Jesus is the true Shepherd who stands by His own at all times. Once you acknowledge Him as your Lord and Saviour, He will not deny you. He stood by that woman who was caught in adultery and He rescued her. Worthless shepherds don’t stand by their flock but Jesus will always stand by you even in trouble.
There are some other shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of God’s pasture. They will scatter God’s flock and drive them away. Such shepherds refuse to attend to the flock of God. God said that He will attend to their evil deeds (Jeremiah 23:1-2). Jesus our great Shepherd does not scatter His flock. He embraces them, feeds them and sustains them. If you have not already made Jesus your Lord and your Shepherd, it is high time you embraced Him as your Shepherd today. He can heal your broken heart and bind up your wounds. He can rescue you from danger and take proper care of you. As we pray today, pray that the Lord will be your Shepherd.
