Praying Against Delay In Marriage

Today, we will be praying against delay in marriage. Although Hannah had a delay in child bearing, for some, they have delay in marriage. When you are of a marriageable age and not yet married, you definitely need divine intervention. The same God that Hannah encountered in Shiloh will answer your prayers today in Jesus’ name.

Rebekah was busy taking care of her father’s flock when she had contact with Eliezer, Abraham’s servant. There was no record that Rebekah was even praying about her future partner. Yet, God inspired Abraham to command Eliezer to go and get his son, Isaac, a wife. Eliezer prayed to God to order his steps and God did that by leading her to Rebekah. Location was not a barrier for Rebekah to be seen by her husband. I pray that wherever you are located today, the path of you and your future spouse will cross in Jesus’ name. I pray that every form of delay in marriage will be over in Jesus’ name.

Joseph Got Married on a Platter of Gold

Joseph was in prison for several years for a sin he didn’t commit. I believe that all that Joseph must have been thinking of would be how to get out of the prison. After he interpreted the dreams of the Chief Butler, he told him that he should remember him and mention him to king Pharaoh so that he can come out of the prison. The Chief Butler forgot Joseph for two years. When God finally remembered Joseph, He gave king Pharaoh a dream and gave Joseph the interpretation. Pharaoh brought Joseph out from the prison after he interpreted his dream and gave him a job in the land. To crown it all, he gave Joseph a wife.

While others might have to put in a lot of effort in getting a wife, Joseph got a wife effortlessly. His father Jacob did not even get his wives on a platter of gold. He had to work for fourteen years before getting his wives, Leah and Rachel. However, Joseph got his wife and a very good job  with a retinue of servants in a day. I pray that the same grace that worked for Joseph will work for you in Jesus’ name. God will establish your career and your business and settle your marriage in Jesus’ name.

Ruth Lost Her Husband But God Still Settled Her

It is possible that your own case is like that of Ruth. You have married before but you have lost your spouse and you’re trusting God for a new spouse. The same God who answered Ruth will answer you in Jesus’ name. I pray that every delay in marriage will be over in Jesus’ name. God gave Ruth a very good husband, Boaz, who had a very good reputation. Boaz was the father of Obed and Obed was the father of Jesse whose son was David. Jesus Christ came from that lineage. So, when God eventually takes away your reproach, he will give you a great spouse who will fear God and do the will of God in Jesus’ name. I pray that every delay in marriage is over in Jesus’ name.

Jacob Had A Delay In Marriage But God Compensated Him With a Nation

The mother of Jacob, Rebekah, arranged how Jacob traveled to Laban so that he could escape the wrath of  Esau. Moreover, Isaac and Rebekah wanted Jacob to marry one of the daughters of Laban who was Rebekah’s brother. Jacob was already old before he left his parents and his brother had already married by then. According to research, Jacob was 77 years when he traveled to Paddan Aram, in Mesopotamia, the city where Laban lives.

Jacob worked for Laban for seven years so that he could marry Rachel. This means that he was 84 years old before he got married. His father, Isaac married at the age of 40. This shows that Jacob was very old before he married. Even his grandfather, Abraham did not get married this late. At the age of 75 when Abraham was called by God, he had married Sarah by then. However, God compensated Jacob and gave him a nation, Israel. His sons are the twelve tribes in Israel. I pray that God will compensate you for everything you have lost due to delay in marriage in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank you because you always answer my prayers. Lord, I thank you because you have not abandoned your kindness and faithfulness towards me and my household. Thank you Jesus for always leading me and ordering my steps

Genesis 24:26-27

Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord, 27 saying, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.”

2. Father, I pray that just like you answered Jacob and gave him a wife, you will give all those who have delay in marriage their spouse in Jesus’ name

Genesis 29:21-24

Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife that I may go in to her, for my time is completed.” 22 So Laban gathered together all the people of the place and made a feast. 23 But in the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and he went in to her. 24 (Laban gave his female servant Zilpah to his daughter Leah to be her servant.)

3. Father, I pray that just like you eventually answered Jacob and gave him Rachel, you will answer all those who have been having delays in marriage. Lord, I pray that you will also give them good in-laws in Jesus’ name

Genesis 29:25-27

And in the morning, behold, it was Leah! And Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?” 26 Laban said, “It is not so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also in return for serving me another seven years.”

4. Father, I pray that just as you eventually gave Jacob the desire of his heart  in marriage, as your people delight themselves in you, you will give them the desire of their heart in Jesus’ name

Genesis 29:28

Jacob did so, and completed her week. Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife.

5. Father, I pray that just like you favoured Joseph in marriage by giving him his wife on a platter of gold, you will settle all those who have being having delay in marriage in Jesus’ name

Genesis 41:45

Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to be his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt.

6. Father, I pray that just as you settled Ruth and gave her a good husband after she lost her spouse, you will answer all those who are in Ruth’s condition in Jesus’ name

Ruth 4:13

So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.

7. Father, I pray that just like you ordered the steps of Eliezer, Abraham’s servant, you will order the steps of those who are trusting you for a good spouse in Jesus’ name

Genesis 24:12-14

Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. 13 See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. 14 May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

8. Father, I pray that just like you gave Isaac a good wife who was beautiful and very hardworking, you will give those who are trusting you for a good spouse a spouse with impeccable qualities in Jesus’ name

Genesis 24:15-16

Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor. 16 The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

9. Father, I pray for those who are trusting you for their future partners that you will give them a spouse that will be godly and with good character in Jesus’ name

Genesis 24:17-18

The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.” 18 “Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.

10. Father, I pray for all men who are looking for a virtuous woman that they will be favored and meet their wife soon in Jesus’ name

Genesis 24:19-21

After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.” 20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. 21 Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful.
