Praying That God Will Roll Away Your Reproach

Today, our prayer theme is “Praying that God will roll away your reproach”. What is reproach? Reproach is defined as to blame or shame someone. It means to express disappointment in or displeasure with (a person) for conduct that is blameworthy or in need of amendment. Reproach also means to bring into discredit. It means to address someone in such a way as to express disapproval or disappointment. Let us consider some examples of those whom God rolled away their reproach.

Hannah

Hannah went through a lot while she was childless. Her rival, Peninah, was constantly harassing and provoking her due to her childlessness. Elkanah, who was their husband, tried to comfort Hannah, but she could not be comforted. She did not want material things. All she wanted was a child. Food could not take away her reproach. What are you going through at the moment that has made people to shame you. What is that thing that has brought you reproach? God will roll away your reproach today in Jesus’ name.

When Hannah was praying to God for the fruit of the womb at Shiloh, she experienced another rebuke from Eli. Eli was a man of God, but when she was addressing Hannah, he was not in the spirit. He thought that Hannah was drunk when she was pouring her heart to God. He rebuked her and talked to her harshly. It is possible that people might have misinterpreted you even when you are right. I pray that God will roll away your reproach in Jesus’ name. Eventually, when Hannah explained herself to Eli by telling him that she was praying, Eli prayed for her and God answered her prayer. I pray that God will answer your prayers also and roll away your reproach.

God eventually answered Hannah

When God eventually answered Hannah, He did not give her an ordinary child. He gave her a national prophet. Samuel was a great child that was worth waiting for. He started hearing God’s voice right from a tender age. Samuel was the one who installed the first two kings in Israel. He was highly respected by everyone including the kings. Come to think of it, that was  the same child that Hannah waited for for years. No one knows the name of the children of Peninah, not to even talk about their achievements. So, God actually rolled away Hannah’s reproach. The same God that did this for Hannah will roll away your reproach in Jesus’ name

Joseph

Joseph also suffered for a sin he did not commit. He went into prison simply because he refused to sleep with his boss’ wife. You can imagine the reproach that Joseph must have gone through. Although he was wrongly accused, how many people would have believed his story? He needed God’s intervention. At the right time, God elevated him. He became a Prime Minister in the same land where he had served as a slave and a prisoner. I pray for you that in the same land where people have ridiculed you, you will be elevated in Jesus’ name. God will roll away your reproach in Jesus’ name.

Nobody would have loved to identify with Joseph. He was a slave and an ex-convict. Who would have married such a man with such bad credentials. However, in the same land where he was humiliated, he was elevated. His brothers who sold him into slavery later came back to bow down for him. He later became the boss of his former boss, Potiphar. I pray that those who have humiliated you will come back to bow at your feet in Jesus’ name. God will roll away your reproach in Jesus’ name.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ also suffered some form of shame and reproach. The same set of people whom Jesus came to set free persecuted and abandoned Him. They afflicted and rejected Him. They insulted and flogged him despite the fact that He had no sin. It is unthinkable that the people spat on the king of glory. They pierced and crucified Him on the cross. Yet, he stood silent before all those who condemned him. If Jesus’ story had ended in the grave, it would have been catastrophic.

It would have been a tragedy and there would have been nothing for us to celebrate. But Jesus’ story did not end in the grave, He rose on the third day and today, He is seated at the right hand of God interceding for us. He has been highly exalted and given a name that is above every other name. At the name of Jesus, every knee bows, in heaven, on earth and under the earth. I pray that God will roll away your reproach in Jesus’ name.

15 He’ll make you young again! He’ll take care of you in old age. And this daughter-in-law who has brought him into the world and loves you so much, why, she’s worth more to you than seven sons!”

16 Naomi took the baby and held him in her arms, cuddling him, cooing over him, waiting on him hand and foot.

17 The neighborhood women started calling him “Naomi’s baby boy!” But his real name was Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David.
