Pray That God Will Deliver You From Strange Fire
Pray That God Will Deliver You From Strange Fire
Today, you should pray that God will deliver you from a strange fire. Leviticus 10:1-2 says, “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.” This shows that offering a strange fire could lead to death.
The Definitions of Strange
What does the word ‘strange’ mean? It could mean “strange,” as in something abhorrent or loathsome. In that case, strange fire will mean a loathsome fire or abhorrent fire. Strange could also mean “foreign,” as in something associated with pagans or Gentiles. It could be pointing to something in the Gentile world, the Gentile culture or Gentile religion. Psalm 44:20-21 says, “If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.” It means that you can not claim to be a believer and still abhor strange gods, that will be a strange fire.
Another definition of strange fire could be “unauthorized”—in other words, something not appropriate or something that’s disqualified or off-limits. The Holy Spirit is always available to lead and guide us on the right things to do. When you do what the Holy Spirit has not authorized in your service to God, you have offered a strange fire.
How can you offer a strange fire to God?
- When you give an unacceptable offering like Ananias and Sapphira, you have offered a estranged fire to God (Acts 5:1-5)
- When you treat the Lord offering with contempt like Phinehas and Hophni, you have offered a strange fire to God (1 Samuel 2:12-15)
- If you offer a service that the Holy Spirit has not authorized to God, you have offered a strange fire. Uzzah tried to rescue the ark of God, although he was not authorized to do so, and that led to his death ( 2 Samuel 6:6-7)
- When king Saul offered an unauthorized sacrifice to God, it was like offering a strange fire to God. Due to this action, his kingdom was taken away from him (1 Samuel 13:7-12)
As we pray today, I pray that God will deliver you from a strange fire in Jesus’ name. I pray that the Holy Spirit will constantly lead you to run the race lawfully in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Points
- Father, I pray that you will deliver me from offering a strange fire to you. Lord, I pray that you will check my motives and my intentions and you will purify my heart in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray for the grace not to offer an unauthorized fire.
Leviticus 10:1-3
“And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. 3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.”

1 Samuel 2:12-15
Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord. 13 Now it was the practice of the priests that, whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled 14 and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh. 15 But even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the person who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast; he won’t accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”
3. Father, I pray for the grace not to act in disobedience and with disrespect to your will and to your ways. Lord, I pray that you will give me a heart on fire and the willingness to obey you always. I pray for the grace not to treat the Lord’s offering with contempt in Jesus’ name.
1 Samuel 2:16-17
If the person said to him, “Let the fat be burned first, and then take whatever you want,” the servant would answer, “No, hand it over now; if you don’t, I’ll take it by force.” 17 This sin of the young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they were treating the Lord’s offering with contempt.

It shall be most holy to you.
7. Father, I pray for the grace to always wait for your instructions before I take any step in my service to you. Lord, I pray that you will give me the grace not to offer strange fire in Jesus’ name. I pray that I will not act in disobedience to your will in Jesus’ name
1 Samuel 13:7-12
And some of the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. 8 Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
9 So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering. 10 Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.
11 And Samuel said, “What have you done?” Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash, 12 then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.”
8. Father, I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide in my service to God. I pray that I will not make any costly mistake that will pitch me against your will in Jesus’ name. I pray that I will not offer a strange fire in Jesus’ name. Lord, deliver me from strange fire in Jesus’ name.

Acts 5:1-5
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.
