Pray For The Grace To Keep God’s Covenant
Pray For The Grace To Keep God’s Covenant
Today, we will pray for the grace to keep God’s covenant. God can supply the grace to keep His covenant. He told Apostle Paul that His grace is sufficient for him. God was able to sustain Paul in his christian journey by His grace. 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 (NIV) says, “Or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me”
There is a sufficient grace to run this Christian race and to finish well. There are some challenges that you might face at times and this happens so that the power of God can be made perfect in your weakness.
Biblical Figures Who Demonstrated The Grace To Keep God’s Covenant
There are several examples of biblical figures who demonstrated the grace to keep God’s covenant. We will consider a few of them below. These individuals are celebrated for their faithfulness and commitment to the covenants God established with them, serving as examples of the grace to keep God’s covenant.
-
Abraham:
Abraham is a prime example of someone who had the grace to keep God’s covenant. He faithfully obeyed God’s commands, including the difficult task of sacrificing his son Isaac. God made a covenant with Abraham, promising to make him the father of many nations (Genesis 17). Abraham’s unwavering faith and obedience are highlighted in the New Testament as well (Romans 4:3). Abraham kept God’s covenant and today, God has fulfilled everything that He promised Abraham.
2. Moses:
Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and was the mediator of the Old Covenant between God and Israel at Mount Sinai. Despite the challenges he faced, including the constant grumbling of the people, Moses remained faithful to God’s instructions (Exodus 19-24). His dedication to God’s covenant is evident in his role in delivering the Law and his intercession for the people. Moses was a well respected Prophet who walked in God’s ways.
3. David:
King David is another figure who kept God’s covenant, though not without flaws. God made a covenant with David, promising that his descendants would rule Israel forever (2 Samuel 7:12-16). David’s heart for God and his repentance when he sinned are key aspects of his covenantal relationship with God. You might also have some flaws, but you can talk to God about those flaws and pray for the grace to keep His covenant. David said that as the deer pants after the water, so his soul pants after God. If you are a man after God’s heart like David, you will not want to offend God. So, pray for the grace to keep God’s covenant.
4. Joshua:
Joshua succeeded Moses and led the Israelites into the Promised Land. He faithfully followed God’s commands, as seen in the conquest of Canaan. Joshua renewed the covenant with the people at Shechem, urging them to serve the Lord faithfully (Joshua 24). Joshua was asking the Israelites to make a decision about whom they will serve. He said that as for him and his family, he will serve the Lord. You can also make a decision to keep God’s covenant with all the members of your household.
5. The Prophets:
Many prophets, such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, remained faithful to God’s covenant by calling the people of Israel back to obedience. Despite persecution and rejection, they conveyed God’s covenantal promises and warnings. As a child of God, you can also be at the forefront in leading your city or your nation back to God. So many people around the world today are keeping the wrong covenants. However, God can use you to liberate those who are in darkness who are keeping the wrong covenants. We all need the grace to keep God’s covenant. Since you cannot give what you don’t have, you have to spearhead keeping God’s covenant first before you can liberate those who are keeping the devil’s covenant.
6. Jesus Christ:
The ultimate example of keeping God’s covenant is Jesus Christ. He fulfilled the Old Covenant and established the New Covenant through His death and resurrection. Jesus’ perfect obedience to the Father and His sacrificial love are the foundation of the New Covenant (Luke 22:20, Hebrews 8:6). Jesus laid down this example for us so that you and I will have no excuse in keeping God’s covenant. He submitted fully to the will of God even when it was not convenient for Him. So, today, you and I have no excuse in keeping God’s covenant.
As we pray today, I pray that God will release unto us the grace to keep His covenant in Jesus’ name.
