Praying Against Closed Doors

Today, we are going to be praying against closed doors. What is a closed door? A closed or locked door suggests something or someone is blocking you and your progress, or perhaps a project or phase in your life has ended.  However, it is not all closed doors that are bad because some are actually good.

I will categorize closed doors into two. The pleasant closed doors and the unpleasant closed doors. The pleasant closed doors are the doors that you want God to close which could result into some pending dangers if they are opened. However, the unpleasant closed doors are the doors that could be beneficial to you, yet they are closed.

When the Red Sea was closed against the Israelites while the Egyptian army was pursuing them, that was an unpleasant closed door. They would have died but for God’s intervention. However, when they crossed the Red Sea, the Egyptian army still pursued them into the Red Sea. They needed God to close the door of the Sea against the Egyptian army. God eventually did and the sea swept away all the Egyptians’ army. That was a closed door that is pleasant.

Praying Against Closed Doors At Jericho

When the gates of Jericho were shut against the Israelites on their way to the promised land, it was an unpleasant closed door. Also, barrenness is a form of unpleasant closed doors. Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Manoah’s wife, Hannah and Elizabeth will tell you that it was not a pleasant thing for one’s womb to be shut. Thank God all these barren women eventually had children. God opened up their womb. The only barren woman in the bible who did not have a child was Michal, David’s wife. She despised her husband while dancing to God and God shut her womb permanently.

God has promised us the key of David, so you have the power to open closed pleasant doors and permanently lock the unpleasant doors. Also, if you are yet to give your life to Jesus, don’t close the door of your heart. Give Jesus a chance today. He is knocking the door of your heart. Don’t allow the door of heaven to shut against you permanently throughout eternity.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank you for the key of David. Thank you for the grace to open every pleasant door closed against me and the grace to close every unpleasant door.

Revelation 3:7-8

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

2. Father, I pray that you will deliver me from every enemy that tries to trap me.

Exodus 14:9

So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon.

3. Father, I pray that you will open all doors locked against me in Jesus’ name. Lord, make a way for me where there is no way and make a path for me in the mighty waters.

Exodus 14:13-16

13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”15 And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. 16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

4. Father, I pray that you will destroy every gate locked against me. Lord, open all gates that will lead me to my land that is flowing with milk and honey in Jesus’ name

Joshua 6:1

Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.

5. Father, I pray that you will open all the prison doors and set the captives free in Jesus’ name. Break every gate of brass and cut the bars of iron asunder in Jesus’ name.

Acts 16:22-28

22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”

6. Father, deliver me from the power of people like Herod who is after my life. Open every prison doors lock against me in Jesus’ name.

Acts 12:1-5

It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.

4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

7. Father, I pray that you will unlock the door of heaven in Jesus’ name. I receive the grace to enter through the narrow gate and to make it to the kingdom of heaven

Luke 13:24-28

24 “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25 Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

26 “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’27 “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’

28 “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out

8. Father, I pray that you will close the door against the enemies that are trying to pursue me in Jesus’ name. Lord, shut the door permanently against my enemies in Jesus’ name.

Exodus 14:21-23

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

9. Father, I pray that the Egyptians that I see today, I will see them no more in Jesus’ name

Exodus 14:26-28

26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” 27 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon

10. Father, I pray that you will shut the doors against all the evil forces ganging up against me in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 19: 4-11

. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”

6 Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him 7 and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”

9 “Get out of our way,” they replied. “This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

10 But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door. 11 Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.

11. Father, I pray that you will constantly direct me and lead me rightly in Jesus’ name. I pray that the Holy Spirit will constantly guide me to my open doors and reveal the closed doors to me in Jesus’ name

Acts 16:6-7

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.

12. Father, I pray that you will reveal the opened doors of gospel to me in Jesus’ name. I pray that I will only go where you lead me.

Acts 22:17-18

“When I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance and saw him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.’

13. Father, I pray that as I knock, you will open all the pleasant doors shut against me in Jesus’ name.

Matthew 7:7

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

14. Father, open the door of gospel to me in my city in Jesus’ name. I pray that the people will be receptive to the gospel

Matthew 10:11-14

And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. As you enter the house, greet it. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town.

15. Father, I pray that you will touch the hearts of the unbelievers as you knock unto the doors of their hearts. They will yield to Christ and be born again in Jesus’ name.

Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
