Pray That God Will Make You A Candidate For His Mercy

Pray That God Will Make You A Candidate For His Mercy

Today, you should pray that God will make you a candidate for his mercy. There were many people in the bible that were candidates of God’s mercy. Moses was a murderer who ran away from Egypt because he was afraid that king Pharaoh could kill him. God by His mercy appeared to him in the wilderness and turned Moses, a murderer into a great prophet. That appointment could only have been by the mercy of God.

Jonah was another man who was a candidate of God’s mercy. He disobeyed God by running away from God’s assignment. Remember that it was also the sin of disobedience that king Saul committed and God took away the throne from him and gave it to king David. However, when the fish swallowed Jonah, he cried out to God and he obtained mercy. God gave him a second chance and the fish took him to Nineveh. Jonah’s ministry would have been completely terminated if not for God’s mercy.

Jesus saw the five thousand men who He had been feeding with the Word of God for three days and had mercy on them. He fed them supernaturally by multiplying the five loaves of bread and two fish. This shows that if you are hungry, God can also make you a candidate of His mercy by supplying your needs.

Lord Make Me A Candidate For Your Mercy

The prodigal son found favor from his father. He took his inheritance from his father, went away from the house and spent his inheritance recklessly. He was not worthy to be called a son again. However, he went to his father and asked for mercy. He pleaded to his father to be one of his slaves. However, the father embraced him, took him back as a son and threw a party for him. If you have sinned and you have gone astray just like this prodigal son, God can still make you a candidate for His mercy. God will embrace you and forgive you, cleanse you and accept you back as His son.

The soldiers who crucified Jesus Christ also obtained mercy. Jesus had the power to call on legions of angels to destroy them. They would have died instantly. Instead, Jesus had mercy on them. He prayed for them that God should forgive them because they were ignorant of what they were doing. Many of us also deserve death by the virtue of the sins we have committed, but I pray that the Lord will make us candidates of His mercy. I pray that we will not die in our ignorance in Jesus’ name. As we pray today, I pray that the Lord shall have mercy on us in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank you because you are a merciful and a compassionate God. You are slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. I pray that you will make me a candidate for your mercy. Lord, I pray that just as you had mercy on the city of Nineveh when they repented of their sins, you will have mercy on me in Jesus’ name.

Jonah 4:2 (NLT)

So he complained to the Lord about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.

2. Father, I pray that you will make me a candidate of your mercy today in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will have mercy on me just like you had mercy on Manasseh in Jesus’ name

2 Chronicles 33:12-13 (NET)

In his pain Manasseh asked the Lord his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. 13 When he prayed to the Lord, the Lord responded to him and answered favorably his cry for mercy. The Lord brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. Then Manasseh realized that the Lord is the true God.

3. Father, I pray that you will make me a candidate of your mercy. Lord, I pray that just like the father of the prodigal son had mercy on him, you will also have mercy on me in Jesus’ name. Father, I pray that I will experience your unfailing love in Jesus’ name.

Luke 15:20-24 (NET)

So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way from home his father saw him, and his heart went out to him; he ran and hugged his son and kissed him. 21 Then his son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his slaves,  ‘Hurry! Bring the best robe, and put it on him! Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet! 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it! Let us eat and celebrate, 24 because this son of mine was dead, and is alive again—he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.

4. Father, I pray that just like you forgave the soldiers who nailed you to the cross, you will forgive me Lord. Father, I pray that you will make me a candidate of your mercy in Jesus’ name.

Luke 23:34 (NLT)

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice

5. Father, I pray that you will make a candidate for your mercy and heal me from all forms of infirmities in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will deliver me from sickness by your mercy.

Philippians 2:25-27 (NIV)

But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.

6. Father, I pray that just like you showed Paul mercy, you will have mercy on me in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will not count my sins against me in Jesus’ name. I pray that my life will witness a positive turnaround in Jesus’ name.

1 Timothy 1:13 (NIV)

Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.

Pray That God Will Show You Mercy

7. Father, I pray that just like you had mercy on the adulterous woman, you will have mercy on me Lord. Father, I pray that you will make me a candidate for your mercy in Jesus’ name.

John 8:9-11 (NIV)

Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

8. Father, I pray that you will have mercy on me and feed me supernaturally. I pray that you will meet me at the point of my needs in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will make me a candidate for your mercy in Jesus’ name.

Matthew 15:32 (ESV)

Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”

9. Father, I pray that just like you were with Joseph and showed him mercy and gave him favor, you will have mercy on me and show me favor in Jesus’ name.

Genesis 39:21 (MEV)

But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

10. Father, I pray that you will have mercy on me according to your steadfast love. Lord, I pray that you will blot out my transgressions according to your abundant mercy. Father, I pray that you will make me a candidate for your mercy in Jesus’ name.

Psalm 51:1 (ESV)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

11. Father, I pray that you will answer me whenever I call on your name. Lord, I pray that you will forgive me if there is any way I have disobeyed your commandments. Lord, I pray that just like you had mercy on Jonah when he cried to you in the belly of the fish, you will have mercy on me. Father, make me a candidate for your mercy in Jesus’ name.

Jonah 2:1-2 (CEB)

Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish: 2 “I called out to the Lord in my distress, and he answered me. From the belly of the underworld I cried out for help; you have heard my voice.

12. Father, I pray that you make me a candidate of your mercy. Lord, make me a beneficiary of your compassion in Jesus’ name.

Romans 9:15 (NIV)
