Pray That The Lord Will Have Mercy On You

Pray That The Lord Will Have Mercy On You

Today, we will pray that the Lord will have mercy on us. What is mercy? Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. Mercy is the compassionate treatment of those in distress, especially when it is within one’s power to punish or harm them. When David sinned against God by sleeping with the wife of Uriah, I believe that he did not get the punishment that his sins deserved. I don’t think that David deserves to be one of the great patriarchs of Jesus, yet, Jesus came from his lineage. God described him as a man after His heart. That must have been by God’s mercy. Pray that the Lord will have mercy on you also.

As a matter of fact, we have all sinned against God and we deserve severe punishment. We deserve death but Jesus gave us life. Jesus had compassion on those who were crucifying Him and He still prayed that God should forgive them. Women like Tamar and Rahab are not supposed to be the great matriarchs of Jesus Christ considering their background. Tamar disguised as a prostitute and slept with her father-in-law, Judah. Rahab was a national prostitute in Jericho who found mercy because she protected the Israelites who came to spy the city of Jericho. If not for God’s mercy, many of us would have been consumed by our sins. Moses the murderer became a prophet by God’s mercy. Paul the persecutor became a great preacher by His mercy.

God Shows  Mercy To The Merciful

For you to receive God’s mercy, you must also be merciful. James 2:13 (NKJV) says, “For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” This scripture says that if you are the type who doesn’t show mercy, judgment will be without mercy for you also. Matthew 5;7 (NKJV) says, “Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. One of the ways to obtain God’s mercy is to show others mercy. Pray that as you are merciful to others, the Lord will have mercy on you.

God’s Mercy Is Great And Abundant

Another thing that is worthy of note about God’s mercy is that His mercy is abundant and it is also great (1 Peter 1:3 and 2 Samuel 24:14). God has the capacity to show us mercy in every area of our lives. Your best is not enough if God does not show you mercy. All your effort will be in vain without His mercy. Your wisdom is nothing but for God’s mercy. You cannot make progress in the kingdom by just leaning on your own understanding. You make progress by God’s mercy. Romans 9;16 (NKJV) says, “So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” The good news is that God has this mercy in abundance and He is willing to give to all who ask Him.

Many of us know the story of blind Bartimeus. Although he was blind, he regained his sight by crying unto Jesus for mercy. Luke 18:35-38 (NKJV) says, “Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. 36 And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. 37 So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he cried out, saying,“ Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Do we also need God’s mercy today? All we need to do is to cry to God for mercy, and He will show us mercy.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank you because you are good to all and your tender mercies are over all your works

The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.

2. Father, I pray that you will have mercy on me. You are the Lord who is rich in mercy and your love for us is great. Lord, I pray that as many as are dead in their trespasses, you will make them alive by your grace and mercy in Jesus’ name.

Ephesians 2:4-5 (NKJV)

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)

3. Lord, I pray that you will have mercy on me in Jesus’ name. Father, I pray that your mercy will triumph over judgment in Jesus’ name.

James 2:13 (NKJV)

For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

4. Lord, I pray that you will have mercy on me. Father, I pray that you will count me among those you will show your mercy and compassion in Jesus’ name.

For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”

5. Father, I bless you for showing me mercy. You are the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and according to your abundant mercy you have begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Lord, I pray that you will give me the grace to experience your mercy in Jesus’ name.

Pray That You Will Obtain Mercy

8. Father, I come boldly to the throne of grace and I pray that I will obtain mercy and find grace to help in my time of need. Lord, I pray that as my High Priest, you will defend me and help me in my weaknesses in Jesus’ name. Lord, have mercy on me in Jesus’ name.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV)

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

9. Father, I pray that you will have mercy on me. Lord, I pray that you will show me your compassion. I pray that you will show me mercy so that I will not run in vain in Jesus’ name.

Romans 9:15-16 (NKJV)

For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

10. Father, I pray that you will preserve me by your mercies so that I will not be consumed. Lord, I pray that you will give me your new mercies every morning in Jesus’ name.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV)

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

11. Father, I thank you for there is no God like you who pardons iniquity. Lord, I thank you because you do not retain your anger forever and you delight in mercy. Father, I pray that you will have mercy on me and subdue my iniquities in Jesus’ name. Lord, I pray that you will have mercy on me and cast my sins into the depths of the sea in Jesus’ name.

Micah 7:18-19 (NKJV)

Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. 19 He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

Pray For Transgenerational Mercy

12. Father, I pray for the grace to fear you. I pray that as I fear you, you will show me your mercy from generation to generation in Jesus’ name.

And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.

13. Father, I pray that mercy, peace and love will be multiplied to me and my household in Jesus’ name.

Jude 1:2 (NKJV)

Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you

14. Father, I thank you because to you belong mercy and forgiveness. Lord, I pray that you will show me mercy and forgive me in any way I have rebelled against you in Jesus’ name.
